750ml bottle from limited release at LCBO.
A- Amber with a bit of reddish in there too. Copper tones. Creamy off-white head. Falls to a decent thin remainder, probably due to the strong alcohol.
S- Sugary. Malts...hmm, yep more sweet malts. Too cold = not very strong nose, warmed up = strong alcohol presence + (Rust?) metallic and unpleasant. The overall nose is malty, sweet, and some diacetyl/buttery stuff. Close to a butterscotch candy smell, but not crazy.
T- Bready. Malts upfront, but the main attraction at first is the strong bitter aftertaste. A nice hop bitterness. It says Crystal hops and Rogue's Rebel Hops on this bottle, differs from the BA stats. Long aftertaste. A bit of peppery spice at the beginning, maybe some coriander. Creamy.
Alcohol fits nicely in there, but gets more noticeable as it warms. Reminds me of DFH 90minute, but less IPA-y and note quite as balanced as far as alcohol goes.
This would be a nice Winter sipper due to the warming alcohol.
M- Full bodied ale, oily and slick. Nothing bad here.
O- I'd say it's good, it's simple, but doesn't knock it out of the park. A solid strong ale, I would recommend splitting one of these with a friend. Again, would make for a good winter-warmer.

Stoneware swingtop bottle, as Rogue XS Dead Guy Ale, from Costco, Sacramento. The ordinary Dead Guy Ale is not a favourite of mine, but this one is much better. Mahogany colour. The aroma is okay, but not outstanding. The flavour is excellent, malty and vinous with notes of toffee and caramel, also decent hops. Pleasant warming mouthfeel.

Cloudy dark brownish-yellow. Creamy head. Aroma Is hoppy, smoke, light citrus. Taste is sharp , woody, smoke, light fruit....more apple-pearish than the citrus in the nose. Feel is creamy and lively at the same time. Smooth sipping. A nice beer. Smoother than I remember the regular dead guy. Yeah, baseball is back."

Crowler from Growler Guys. Dark, clear amber with small, tight beige head. Malty aroma, caramelly and sweet. Taste is more big malty flavors, some tannin, a bit dry. Late bitterness.

Let's just say this: Before knowing about this ale. My company did not have a probationary period for employees.

This is an exceptional offering from Rogue. Been aging this in our cellar which is a constant 50-55 degrees since 2009. I believe I got a case of these at the Rogue garage sale in downtown Portland. So, since we are moving to Idaho and on a two week mountain trip, I figured it's time to start opening them on our camp/cabin excursion. Opened in Park City and this is unbelievable still for how old it is. Smell is that of a belgian strong ale and candied sugar. Taste is very good maltiness, candied sugars, lots of vanilla, almond, buttery bread crust and a small amount of grapefruit bitterness on the back end. Luckily I have a couple more of these and will be opening them up and enjoying in glassware at the next camp site around the Tetons!
