On tap at the Happy Gnome I think.
Pours a lightly hazy reddish brown, neat colour, thin light tan head forms and settles to a thin ring around the glass and a thin layer, no real lacing.
Smell is weird, like vomit, light biscuit maltiness, rum spice, woody, slightly metallic, nutty and sweet, some caramel, weird and not very good.
Taste is same, not as rotten, sweet and malty up front, caramel, biscuit, nutty, woody through the middle, weird rum spiciness, some booze, interesting.
Mouthfeel is watery and thin, light bodied with medium carbonation. A bit of a mess, not good.

I have had this bomber in my reefer for so long that I almost no longer remember from whence it came. I bought it at local Country Garden Six-Pack as my curiosity was piqued, but in reading reviews, it sounded sweeter than I really wanted to deal with. I am hoping that this time in the bottle had matured it somewhat. There is only one way to find out.
From the Bottle: "Ale with Natural Hazelnut Flavor Aged in Hazelnut Spice Rum Barrels"; "13 Ingredients: Harrington, Klages, Brown, Carastan 13/17, Crystal 70/80, Crystal 135/165, Beeston Pale Chocolate & Rogue Micro Barley Farm Dare (tm) malts; Saaz and Rogue Micro Hopyard Revolution Hops; Hazelnut Extract, Free Range Coastal Water & Top Fermenting Pacman Yeast."; "33 IBU*73.6 AA*14° Plato*36° L"; "A nutty twist to a traditional European Brown Ale. Dark Brown in color with a hazelnut aroma, a rich nutty flavor and a smooth malty finish."; "[undersigned] John Couchot Spirits Master [+] John Maier Brewmaster".
I remember, back 20 years ago, when I really began to immerse myself in craft beer, being really intimidated by Rogue's avalanche of information on their bottles. Now, I understand all of it, but only a small part is really useful. It's still impressive, though.
The first step was to Pop! off the vaunted oxygen-fixing cap. Once this was done, I started one of the slowest, gentlest C-Line pours in recent memory. There were lees on the punt, it was an aged beer & I simply did not want to muck things up. I did not get any head as a result, but I was satisfied with the outcome. Color was a rich Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity, like liquid mahogany! Gorgeous! Nose was redolent with spiced rum. I am not a huge fan of rum and/or CAPT Morgan's, but I have partaken in the past, enough to recognize it when I smell it. Mmm. Imprecise for the style, but allowable. Mouthfeel was medium, but between the spice & the inherent carbonation, it was quite tingly on the tongue. The taste was a real WOW! with the sweetness having died off to become a VERY spicy, almost Hallowe'en/Pumpkin-like in its intensity. Phew. Bone-dry!
Going off-task for a moment, I spent seven months onboard Camp Moscrip at NavSta Roosevelt Roads, P.R. from March through October 1993 & after a tour of the Bacardi factory, we built our own still for rum. I was not a huge fan of our hooch, but it was free, so … It was when we visited the Don Q distillery that my eyes were opened. Rum need NOT be sweet! Dry rum is not the norm, but if you are like me & eschew sweets, dry rum is the schizznit. It mixes with the standard rum mixers, but instead of being sweet on top of sweet, it becomes sweet with dry. Yum!
Oh, this was blessedly dry! The spices really contributed to this, I am sure, along with the aging. Goldang, this was gooood! The chocolatiness of the base Am. Brown Ale was coming through, especially as it warmed, but the hazelnut, rum & its spices were leading the way. Wow! I had really not intended to age it this long, but it was paying dividends in terms of its drinkability. Brilliant! Finish was absolutely bone-dry, a quality that I am sure that it did not have at its inception. The spices worked really well with the hazelnut flavor & the rum & chocolate malt only helped to contribute. Wonderful! I may shed a few tears at the end of this one, but I still have to pat myself on the back for not having screwed this one up over time. 8=)

Aroma Is sweet hazelnut, mold, some fruit. Dark brown color, small head. Taste is rummy, sweet malt, some banana-esque, pumpkin-esque notes. Great flavor. A bit flat, but otherwise another winner from Rogue."

this would have been better maybe if it was opened when it was supposed to be....It was sour (not a good sour) without any of the tastes that I was expecting... Drain Pour. I would like to have tasted this beer when it was released...I think about three years ago.
