Pitch black; a little light comes around the edges.

Nice khaki head which dissipates; thick lacing.

Chocolate and cream in the nose.

Heavy mouthfeel.

Taste is of chalky dark chocolate; almost metallic upfront. Back end is all chocolate.

Slightly off-putting at first, but that chalkiness goes away as it warms. Overall very tasty.

Ah the good ol' days of the Rogue solid red (Double Chocolate) or blue bottles (this one). Pours a thick brown, lesser color brown on the head, 1/3". Firmly entrenches itself in between those imperial browns and a stout. Truly porter's realm. The aroma is pretty much devoid of coffee notes, there is a little bit to be discerned from the roasted malt, but ultimately for something with "mocha" in the name, it kind of comes up short of achieving that truth in advertising feel in the aroma department.

Taste is pretty good, I like the malt base, its a chewy thick porter, American in its hop execution. Seems like some bitterness provided but not a lot of flavor from the hops. Taste has more in the way of chocolate flavor than it does coffee. Does seem to hide the alcohol decently. Carbonation is moderate. At around $13 a bottle, you have to wonder what it would cost in a 6 pack. No barrel aging, no significant adjunct expenditure. . . I like the beer, but its not a repeat purchase in this format and price per oz all things considered. Try it once, but you'll prolly be good after that.

This big bodied porter pours a nice dark brown, almost black, with a nice thick head which holds for a while after pouring.I didn't get much off of the aroma, but for some reason that didn't matter when it came time to drink it. The taste is a very strong, pleasant, roasted malt with the bitter flavor coming through in the dark malt. The alcohol does not overwhelm the flavor and it is quite easy to drink. An excellent porter.
