Black with thick, sorry, brown head that didn't last long.

Smells of roasted malts, coffee and hints of dark chocolate.

Tastes coffee and light smokey roasted malts. Fades to a dry and bitter finish with roasted malt and coffee linger and light smoke. Lighter side of medium body and medium, smooth carbonation

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into pint glass in January 2017. There was no bottled-by or drink-by dates on the bottle, but I drank this within 1 month of purchase.

Appearance: Very dark black with a thick tan/brown head. Head remains thick for a while, and leaves some nice lacing on the glass.

Smell: Strong aroma of roasted coffee and malts. There is some hoppiness as well as some sweetness like caramel, but overall the roasted coffee dominate the others.

Taste: There is a nice balance between the flavors. There is coffee flavors with some smokie roasted flavors, a little chocolate flavor, and hop flavors to enhance the taste and add some complexity. There is some sweetness like chocolate and caramel. There is a medium alcohol presence as with other Stout.

Mouth-feel: Very thick, but with an extremely smooth and creamy body.

This is an excellent oatmeal Stout, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. It is very smooth and really enjoyable to drink. Overall one of the best Stouts I have tasted. I will buy this again.

This is a fantastic oatmeal stout. Pours very dark brown/black; opaque even when held up to the light. A nice tan/brown head when poured, but not overly high even on a hard pour which hints at the excellent (not too high) level of carbonation to come which helps with the velvety smooth mouthfeel. Head dissipates relatively quickly for the style & little lacing remains on the glass while drinking. Tons of coffee in the aroma. The coffee continues in the taste with a touch of dark chocolate, nice smooth dark malts and some nice toffee/caramel sweetness. I want another one of these! Sadly, they're not readily available to me & I picked up only one on a recent trip to the States. I will have to embrace my long-time oatmeal companion, which previously had no rivals - St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout. We will weep together at the disappearance of my new friend. Well done Rogue.

The beer is black with a thick foamy tan head. The aroma of the beer has roasted malts and hints of chocolate but then a slight bitterness. The taste is similar but the beer has more of a char taste to it. The mouthfeel is great. Good carbonation, mouth coating, and thick. The bitterness lasts a while on the tongue.

Pours a dark brown. Almost black. Smells of smoke and roasted barley. A little sweet for a stout but has a fantastic smoky flavor that lingers on the tongue. An excellent stout.

Bottle from Albertsons. Dark and smoky, roast grains and chocolate. Dark ruby brown, almost black with velvety dark beige head. A very, very good stout.

Nice chocolate flavor, rich malts with a nice hop finish. Wonderful beer for the holidays or as a great dessert beer!

12oz bottle. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a dark cola brown body, opaque but still fairly muddy brown; one finger mocha head with good retention, plenty of lacing. Smells of roasted barley, milk chocolate, touch of espresso, a fair bit of earthiness, touch of resin, more roasted barley. Nice balance of roast and sweetness. Flavour is similar; more resin and earthy noble hops come across on the finish but it is a pretty balanced roasty and sweet milk chocolate brew with a nice bitterness on the backend, but not what I would call hoppy like Storm King. Not particularly bitter, but really just very balanced. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, good carbonation, rich and appropriate for a cold evening. I can see why this was considered a game winner once upon a time, but it would seem that it has been surpassed, and for a long time.
