At Rogue, we are always working on new ideas that break from the norm; this collaboration is no different. Our friends at Revival Cycles in Austin, Texas also like to push the envelope with their hand-built motorcycles, so teaming up on a new style of IPA that uses a cold fermentation technique just made sense. Knuckle Buster Cold IPA turns out fairly light in body with a floral hop aroma and flavor. It drinks crisp and refreshing, perfect for winding down after busting your knuckles in the garage all day.

Ingredients: Superior Pils, Flaked Rice, Hallertauer Blanc, Belma, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, Comet, Cascade

Ford from a 12 oz bottle purchased at Washington beer store in PA.

Tastes very floral light bitter biscuity. Rather refreshing. Not a whole lot of complexity but that isn't what they were striving for I imagine.

Definitely imagine drinking this on a hot day, (which we kind of are on our porch) and just being refreshed by a nice cool Brew.

12oz can from Albertsons. Pale golden pour, cloudy, one finger white foamy head. Aroma is biscuity with light orange notes. Taste is sweet with a short, sharp bite bite right up front. Bitterness dominates the palate from this point forward. Seems a bit unbalanced to me.

Pours a golden orange in color with a finger of white foam on top that subsides to a thin layer over time and leaves a bit of lacing on the glass as you drink. Carbonation looks average; the big bubble kind. Nothing fancy, pretty standard for a Rogue IPA.

Very floral aroma of tropical fruits, melon and citrus. There's a definite grapefruit rind character to it and perhaps a bit of spice. There is a subtle cereal grain breadiness in the background, which becomes more prominent as it warms, but it remains predominantly hoppy and fresh.

Follows the nose well. I'm actually getting a lot of grapefruit, which I love, but was not hinted at by the "taste note star" on the can, which said primarily tropical/bitter. I do also get some pineapple and lemon, some herbal tea and a hint of pine especially towards the swallow. It does feel a tad astringent, especially as it warms. The malts are there throughout, kind of a very light, cereal grain/cracker taste, but they really stay out of the way and are almost indiscernible other than lending a hint of balance. The aftertaste is predominantly bitter lemon rind.

This is medium bodied with a bit of chewiness, but overall it feels a bit thin and maybe even mineral-watery. That may be due partially to the crisp, dry finish. It is quite drinkable and refreshing, otherwise.

This is quite nice. Nothing special, but a good IPA to enjoy after working up a sweat. I do tend to give Rogue the benefit of the doubt on new offerings since they rarely disappoint, and I would put this one in that category. I might seek this one out again if I'm in the mood for this kind of IPA, though there are certainly better offerings out there. Cheers!

Pours into a standard pint a tangerine-like color with a one finger pillow-like head that is quite sticky.Tropical fruits abound in the nose with a bit of grassiness underneath, even a hit of resin shows thru.Tropical upfront with some of that resin, quite dry in the finish with more of the resin. It's solid kind a old school in its dryness and resin qualities, would get again for some easy drinking.

Pours an effervescent & slightly hazed gold with a pinky of cream colored head. Some lacing & head retention

S: Bready, grainy, a little citrus. a little leafy hop

T: Green melon, a little lime & passion fruit, fairly dry up front. Starts to get a little astringent as this warms, some wet cereal grains as well, plus a little grapefruit. Finishes sweet ( makes me think Spelt is in this ), astringent with a little lime

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, balance is so-so

Initial taste is good, but becomes pretty meh as it warms

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is straw gold, slight haze, head is brighter white and presents just less than 1 finger thick, head then dissipates to froth on glass and ring on the sides.

Smell is tighter, crisper hop notes of pine, earthy, light herbal note, hint of citrus; malt is light with some biscuit and base note toast.

Taste is crisp bitterness and hop notes of pine, earth, herbal/tea like notes, light hint of citrus; malt is light biscuit, hint of grape like sweetness, hint of toast.

Mouthfeel is moderate bitterness, lower sweetness, crisp/moderate bitterness.

Overall a really good, crisp and solidly bitter IPA - definitely a lager like crispness to the feel, which smoothes the bitterness some.

12oz. can from a 6-pack purchased from Roth's West Salem Market in Salem OR.
$11.99 a six.
Pours a clear golden coloured body with a rather extravagant frothy pure white head.
aroma is rather floral , dank..yes a bit dank, and white grape skin.
Taste fruity and dry...
Mouth feel is fine for the style medium but slightly lower carb leave this less crisp than wanted.
Now i look at the date..12/08/21..this is a OK beer..but must have been better when new.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a one finger head of white foam. The head fades slowly leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a cracker malt aroma mixed with some grapefruit citrus smells as well as a little bit of a floral and herbal hop smell. Along with these smells are some light tangerine and orange smells as well as a bit of grain.
Taste – The taste begins with a crisp cracker malt flavor mixed with a little bit of graininess and a light sweetness of a citrus nature (tangerine and orange). At the start there is a decent showing of a grapefruit and floral hop taste, with the former getting more intense over time, while the later gets lighter over time. All the while the sweetness also fades a bit and is replaced by some light hop flavors of a herbal and pine nature, leaving a crisp and moderately hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the crisp nature and flavors of the brew the feel is good and makes for an easy sipper.
Overall – A rather nice easy drinking IPA overall. Crisp and clean tasting.

Look: Slightly opaque light orange in color with a nice-looking head that swells and holds as a pillow, slowly receding and leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Mango, Cara Cara oranges, strawberries, pine, blueberries, fir needles, passionfruit, and some sweet bready malt notes
Taste: Tropical fruit and mixed berries kick it off and soon after, some coniferous notes weave their way in and join. Sweet bready malt is present throughout and after the initial hop punch, the flavors further develop and intermingle well until a light hop bite signals the end
Mouthfeel: Full but light, clean throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a clean finish along with a little dryness
Overall: I dig it. I’d never heard of nor about this but spotted it at a local and based on my enjoyment of all previous Cold IPA’s, gave it a whirl and it was a good decision. Lots of tropical, conifer, and berry notes throughout and in a lighter lager-feeling package while maintaining a nice bite and some dryness. Sign me up for more of this and a test subject for future Cold IPA trials, please
