Poured this into a tulip glass. A decently mocha colored head formed during pour. Had to wait a few minutes for it to die down before I could take my first sip. This beer smells really nice. I get a big sweet malty sent that is sharpened a bit from a little hop character coming in. It really smells of a chocolate cookie with hops. The flavor is much the same. You get this really sweet upfront chocolate flavor that finishes with a slight bitter hop. To compare this thing to a cookie again this beer is like sweet cookie with the perfect amount of salt to balance it out. The Mouthfeel is very soft from the very little carbonation.
Overall this is exactly what I was hoping for. It is very fragrant and flavorful and tastes great. I think it very much embodies the American Imperial Stout. I raise my glass to they fine folks of Rogue.

A - Pours a very opaque dark brown, almost black. Has a creamy tan head, leaving a nice lacing.
S - Deep roasted malts, heavy on the chocolate.
T - Chocolate is heavy throughout, but not too sweet or overbaring. Has a bitter kick at the end. Everything working together nicely and hides the alcohol too well.
M - Silky and creamy, medium body with perfect carbonation.
Overall I love this stout. It's been my go to the past couple weeks. I feel the chocolate on this is just right, not too sweet. Definitely worthy of it's rating.

I really liked the Double Mocha Porter so I was lookin forward to this beer,my expectations were met and exceeded. The pour couldnt get any better, (hence the score)jet black with a fluffy, craterous two finger deep mocha colored head, just perfect in the imperial nonic.Deep almost fude-like chocolate in the nose,a bit of raw nuttiness as well, you could say like a walnut fudge brownie. The chocolate on the palate is cakey but not overly sweet, just enough raw earth/nut in the finish keeps this beer immensely drinkable and makes me want more than I have.I like this better than ST Choklat and that is really saying something, this is a great beer,my wife and I will enjoy my second bottle.

Had this on tap at ROGUE Ales Publick House in San Francisco. I was told it was 9.5% by the beer tender, but I see it is listed here at 8%. I thought it was lacking in alcohol for a 9.5 ABV so I tend to agree with the 8% here.
The Rogue Double Chocolate Stout pours a pitch black in the glass with a thick chocolate mousse like head, pretty good retention, but no real lacing to talk about. On the nose are pronounced aromas of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate truffle, chocolate cake...needless to say, there is a lot of chocolate. Besides chocolate, I get raisin, roasted hazelnuts, espresso, & cognac.
Everything that I got on the nose, I get on the palate with a full & rich texture, full body, & long finish. Overall, this is a solid beer worth trying at least once. Recommended if you're looking to try something new, but if you're strapped for cash....go with the regular chocolate stout instead.

750 ml bottle. Pours dark brown black with a medium creamy brown head that goes to a thin film and laces the glass some.
The aroma is sweet baker's chocolate with some roast and a touch of alcohol.
The flavor is a bit thin and subdued. It's some slightly chalky, very sweet, roasted chocolate malts, with some vegetal notes. The finish is some strong roast bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery with soft carbonation.
Overall, it had promise as a sweet dessert beer, but it had too many flaws.
