An excellent example of the chocolate stout category, it just displays chocolate in every aspect. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is one can never have enough chocolate in a brew that represents such a amazing food. Definitely recommend this whether your a fist time tester or weathered veteran in the micro brew field

750ml bottle served into a snifter

A: jet black, minimal lacing and head. Just like you'd want an 8% ish stout to be

S: Plenty of chocolate, some toffee. One of the best smelling chocolate stouts out there

T: Chocolate chocolate chocolate. Similar to the nose, but with a perfect minimal hop balance. I prefer it MUCH more than Rogue's regular chocolate Stout. The ABV is hidden extremely well and it's a treat to drink. Coffee aspect is minimal. Dark chocolate is dominant

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation. Not too thick but just right for the style. An excellent representation

Overall: This is one of my favorite double chocolate stouts. it's a shame it's only seasonal. This is one of Rogue's best beers. It's a fantastic representation of a double chocolate stout, with a little bit of west coast hoppage but not to the point of overbearing. It can be considered a dessert beer, but it's so much more than that. It's just delicious all the way.

Appearance: Pours a thick dark black with high carbonation. It has a finger of tan head which dissipated rather quickly.

Smell: I didn't get any overwhelming smell, so cant say either way.

Taste: A strong chocolate taste, smooth and thick which ends with a slight bitterness.

Mouth feel: Thick and smooth again, I enjoy a thicker beer, wouldn't go as far as milkshake which was what the salesman told me but very enjoyable none the less.

Overall: As one of my first double chocolate stouts this is a winner. I would recommend this beer and with a 9%ABV its a shake rattle and roll baby.
