750 ml bottle, with no apparent bottled on or vintage date present, but I know the local beer store just got this bottle in this week, so I'm confident that this beer is fresh as can be. My first encounter with the red ceramic painted bottle that is Rogue Double Chocolate Stout. Excited to finally have it. Expectations are moderately high.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - Pours a thick oily black; opaque in the glass. Three big fluffy fingers of dark mocha colored head with lots of tightly packed bubbles. Head has some excellent staying power for a 9.00% abv. Some thick scattered mocha lacing. Looks very nice.

S - Oh wow, this thing smells pretty damn delicious. Fudgey chocolate, cream, vanilla, honeyed graham cracker, brown sugar, maple syrup. There is seriously a lot going on here.

T - Taste is pretty nice also. Bittersweet dark baking chocolate, syrupy fudge, vanilla, cream, brown bread, brown sugar, sticky maple, a hint of cola & some dark roasted coffee bean bitterness. Again, there is a lot going on here.

M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with perfect low lying carbonation.

Overall, an excellent beer from Rogue. One of the best, if not the best beer I've had from these guys as of yet, hands down. Much better than the original Rogue Chocolate Stout. This thing is seriously packing on several layers of deliciousness. Why they can't focus on making many more of their beers this good, I will never know. Until then, I say this beer comes highly recommended.
