Definitely had to try this one on St. Patrick's Day. Poured with a slightly dark gold appearance with a thick head that becomes a wonderful lacing. Nice aromas of hops, wheat and some spring-like spice. The taste is wonderfully thin and sweet with its very clean flavors. The mouthfeel is great with the taste, allowing it to be crisp and refreshing. Overall, a great St. Patrick's Day/Spring lager.

Rogue has produced a solid, malty golden lager with a floral and sweetish side in their Kell's Irish Style Lager.
It's a lightly-hazy golden with orange highlights beneath a frothy head of white. The head retention is good and it leaves some very nice lacing about the glass.
The aroma displays a mildly sweetish and wheat-accented malt base with a bit of a perfumey/floral character. It lacks the crisp sulphury character of Harp, which may or may not be a good thing depending upon your palate.
It's smooth and decidedly medium bodied in the mouth. Just lightly crisp.
The flavor displays a subtly sweet, wheatish, and straw-like maltiness threaded through with floral/lightly grassy/sublimely spicy hops, backed by a low-key, but still solid, bitterness. It finishes dry with a stiff bitterness, some residual maltiness, and a scattering of floral hops.
Easy to drink with no barriers to accessibility, but trading-off complexity - as is the norm.

Rogue Kells Irish Style

Tastes like a high quality macro with a little bit more character.
A good session beer, but most micro drinkers will be dissapointed.
I would say this compares well with some of the bigger name European beers. Drinkabilty is very good.
Overall a bit of a let down from a fine brewer.

Usually turned off by this style, I thought I'd give this beer a try solely based on the fact that it's a Rogue... I wasn't disappointed. It poured a pleasant, light golden hue and was complemented with a decent bubbly head. There was a hint of hops in the nose, and the taste featured a nice balance of Saaz-like hops and malt. Pretty smooth and creamy in the mouth and very easy to consume, this would make a quality session beer.

Light to medium gold with a one finger white head which stayed throughout and left excellent lacing.
Smelled malty and grassy, very clean.
Tasted of light malt and a hint of citrus. Nice and refreshing.
Mouthfeel was really nice. Very crisp and satisfying, with a light body and perfect amount of carbonation.
I was really impressed by this beer. A great choice in these warm weather months. Wish it came in a six pack but I'll certainly come back to this one again anyways.

Lightly Hazy, yellow-hay in hue; there is a fair bit of animation dancing towards the head (even in a crappy shaker glass). Of the head, the foam is rocky and bright white in color. At the apex the head was a healthy three fingers tall. Maybe I poured it too hard. Anyway, head retention was respectable; the bubbles were slow to fade to a modest cap. Lacing started before I took a sip; rings of lacing smeared the side of my glass. Overall, this is a pleasant looking beer (with style in mind).
The nose offers sweet lemon bread notes, fresh cut grass, hay, hints of apple skin (not flesh), with a faint fruity-earhty aroma too. It is not hoppy like a Pils, not malty like a Helles it is a standard Euro Pale Lager. Smells fresh; I find the nose simple and straightforward but inviting.
Sweet, bready palate with notes of lemon, orchard fruits (faint), grass, hay, and caramel (very faint); the finish has a slight bitterness to it. I find a happy balance between tangy/earthy hops and the sweet malt flavors. Long compact aftertaste; plenty malty with a slight honey vibe I like how this beer finishes. It seems this beer is a takeoff on Harp but a better version (and pricier one). Tasty enough
Medium in body; moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is fitting. I am happy it is not too slender.
Easy to drink; something about the palate screams this beer would kick ass with grilled brats and sausages. Still Im not sure who the target audience is for this beer. Beer geeks want Harp? Neophytes want to pay $4-5 for 22ounces? Diehard St. Pattys Day goers want real Irish beer. Anyway, maybe Rogue should change the name (Im sure they will anyway) and move it to a summer seasonal. My 2 cents. Worth a try.

A- I'm gonna hold off the Irish references for a minute here, as much as I would like to get right to it. Pours a clear golden yellow with a dense soapy off white head. Foam settles quickly to a thick ring and there's some decent spotty lace. Keeping in mind this is a euro pale lager, I'm going to judge it as such.
S- subdued aroma, fruity and apple like, but I smell it to be leaning more on the pear skin side. Earthy and lacking the sweetness that would come from the meat of the fruit, be it apple or pear. Some bready malt, early harvest reisling, and a quick whiff of herbal hops are also present. A bit off a roasted poultry aroma as well. Modest, but not bad at all.
T- fruity and somewhat tart in the beginning. Sweetent up a bit until the hops kick in. The website says sterling and I would have called saaz, so I guess we are on the same page. Very nice balance of malt and hops and with a little more bitterness I would have called this one a Czech pilsener. Home made white bread, red apple skin, green pear skin, white grape, dry white wine, and cut grass come to mind, blowing the lid off any heine, Stella, amstel, or what have you. Calling an American pale a euro pale is a bit unfair, similar to calling an American made ipa an english style ipa when we all know damn well that it isn't. This is full of flavor for a lighter lager and is nothing short of a "German style" pils. Finishes with bright zesty herbal hops and a bit of lemon with to go along with the fading strong malty spine.
MF- I will agree with other reviews that the feel of this one is cake compared to other EPLs. Quality ingredients shine here and the malty density is perfectly offset by the crisp lively
carbonation giving it a plush and luxurious feel for such a... You know, pale euro lager. Tannins, alpha acids, and moderate alcohol all converge to form a voltron of immaculate dryness.
D- speaking of dryness and on to the big D. Steve Nash doesn't have this D. Never cloying and never overly tart, I'm happy to see this mick hovering in the middle. Don't mind the racial slur, I'm Irish. Graceful dryness and deceptive lightness give this one drinkability like a Bonnie lassie's (expletive) (censored) from the business end of my tin whistle. Please don't dis this well made version of an all too often hated on style. Maybe $5 for a bomber is a bit too much, but when there's a keg in front of you it's a whole different story.

My glass of Kells Irish Style Lager was poured from a 22oz. bomber. The clear light honey color has a stiff white head on top. The foam dissolves quickly to a ring around the surface of the beer. A mild toasted malt aroma with a hint of apple hovers over the beer.
This light bodied beer is mildly carbonated. The flavor is mainly dry malt. Towards the middle some fruity notes of apple appear and it finishes with a mild hop bitterness. Some hoppy notes and toasted malt flavors remain behind.
I thought this beer was quite drinkable. The flavor reminded me of a Czech or German pilsner, but missing the crispness of the european hops.

Presentation: 22 ounce archetypal Rogue Bomber. Screen-printed White and Green colored façade with a Guinness style Harp next to the words Kells above a penny whistle playing flat-capped old-timer, below which Irish Style Lager is added in a Celtic style font. Rogue Signature Lager is written vertically on the right hand side in a dark green font that is barely legible against the brown glass bottle. The geeky beer blurb lists this as an Irish Style Lager with a smooth mellow flavor and an apple crisp finish on the bottle, but its vital statistics are more scientifically expressed as 12° Plato, 28 IBU, 75 AA, 9.8° Lovibond.
Appearance: Soft polished golden body with a fantastic well water clarity to it. Pristine off-white pastel beige head with a light absorbing quality. Head retention is purposeful whilst the conditioning is above average, a stiff swirl will produce a feisty head and a creamy body that has a resemblance to Boddingtons from the Nitro-tap.
Nose: Skunky aromas, hop laden chunky puke and from enticing to be honest. Ever woken up stuck to your pillow in a pool of stale dried vomit!? Sort of smells like that. No seriously, it does.
Taste: Thankfully the off-putting facets of the nose do not transfer to the taste profile, well not exactly. This does have a sweet malt entrance with a biscuit middle which is utterly boring. Im finding it hard to stay awake let alone expend energy thinking of how to describe it .this should be renamed Kellzzz. One dimensional and that single axes is not even appealing.
Mouthfeel: Horrid sickly feel, despite this, the carbonation is supportive and it does tend to benefit from a smooth creamy feel. But it has this horrible sick taste to it that seems to linger and turn me off form enjoying the better parts.
Drinkability: The nose and strange aftertaste are big detractors in this case. I dont really find this Irish style lager (whatever the hell that is), to be that clean. This is a dirty brew with too many niggling aspects that ultimately drag this one down.
Overall: Sort of well, just ..erm, very average. This is a simple macro-style offering in truth. It looks great, but it is really all downhill from there. I expected so much more from this, a (not so bitter) disappointment from Rogue. Leave this one on the shelf and let the pseudo Irish-Americans snap it up for St. Patricks Day, oh my thats only a few days away now thats fortuitous isnt it? Not that Im suspicious of this fact, but Im sure that the macro-swillers wont find this one too difficult to accommodate ;-)

Not clean enough to be a knockout, and too mild to really grab your attention. The flavor follows suit, with meek pale malt. Clean, with just a bit of grassy flavors. Soft, smooth finish, probably from the wheat, with a sedate hop presence. Floral and soapy. Overall, it finishes sweetish and dry. Crispy carbonation. Medium body. Live review. Poured from the 22 oz. bomber that I bought from Warehouse Beverage on Mayfield in Cleveland two days ago for $4.99 into my Samuel Smith pint glass. No observed "best by" date.

Live review. Poured from the 22 oz. bomber that I bought from Warehouse Beverage on Mayfield in Cleveland two days ago for $4.99 into my Samuel Smith pint glass. No observed "best by" date.

This beer came to me an amber/gold color that was crystal clear and well carbonated. It produced a creamy white head that was full and sticky, it produced a thick and sticky lace all the way down the glass, fading at the end. Aromas were of grainy bread, roasted and sweet malts, some nut, coffee and herbal hops. Malt seemed to dominate the nose. The flavors were of sweet and roasted malts, roasted coffee, barley grain, hops, and some fruit. The after taste was light and grainy, like bread, but very slight. Medium bodied. The malt in this beer make it exceptionally creamy. A fresh and clean beer that I wasnt going to try, but glad I did.

The smell is of sweet malt. Kind of typical of a macro lager.
The taste is also of sweet malt but there's a sourness there as well that does nothing to help with the taste of this lager. I find it *very* ordinary and I'm a *big* fan of Rogue products so there is *no* anti bias associated with this review.
Bottom line: It's a Rogue product but don't let their reputation sway you into trying this lager. It's just not worth it.

Poured out a nice straw color, towards the dark side of gold. It had a nice head and decent lacing. Not much of a scent, just a light whiff of maltiness. It could have been an old keg, I'll have to go back and find out, but the beer had a slight sour taste. There wasn't much there to begin with, just a slight sweet and carbonated taste. It does go down nice, though.

A - Pours a clear golden amber in to my glass witha slight white carbinated head that dissapates quickly leaving no lace.
S- It smell of light citrusy noble hops. Not a strong overpowering aroma but its follwed by a light malt prescence.
T - Light bicuity flavor, some bread, and maybe some vineous flavors bouncing around in there. Like a light chardonnay.
M - Kinda chewy for the style. not light enough. Creamy on the tounge, and has sharpness from the carbination on the mid-tip of the tounge.
D - Its a light Euro pale lager. Its not bursting with flavor, but it is true to style.
