Reviewed from notes. She pours a gentle black and leaves the same colored body with a foamy white half finger head that lasts for a good minute. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen and some light lacing shows around the sides of the glass. The smell has the hops up front, pretty powerful, but not overbearing. Some roasty coffee notes are there as well. The taste centers around the hops with the same roasty coffee notes coming back. Malts come out a bit more in the taste. There is a slight dry aftertaste too. On the palate, she sits about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue, and comes across fairly sessionable. Overall, this is a good black ale that I could have again.

Been saving this for father’s day. Bottle poured into a ""boot"" glass.
Aroma is ash, Caramel,
Appearance: dark black color, thick white head, frothy, lasting.
Taste is equally malty and hoppy. Alcohol kick, and some sweetness, caramel, brown sugar.

A nice fathers day treat.

globe, 22 oz bomber. I was a little disappointed by this one, as it was bitter on the finish. Adding a little stevia to it helped.

Pours a deep brown with a tan, medium, thick head that lasts a while

Smells mostly of roasted malts and light pine. Maybe a hint of raisin

Tastes mildly sweet roasted malts that fades quickly to nice balance of malt and pine. Finishes dry with a light bit of bitter coffee lingers for a short while. Medium body with a regular amount of carbonation.

Bottle from brewers haven. One of the first black IPAs I had tried, led the way for many others. Sharp and woody brew, black with small beige skin. Hops bite on the taste, dark malt flavors follows

a will admit that my bottle has a little time on it, some some of the hops have likely faded, but this has held up nicely overall. its really nice to look at, creamy thick khaki colored head on a shiny black base without too much viscosity and without a single imperfection. it smells heavy on the roast without the caramel middle so many of thee have. its all ash and char, super dark and bitter. hops seem a little vegetal, but mostly bitter too. in the flavor there is some nice nuance, i get fresh blackberry and dried currants in the center, a neat quality in a style like this. the only malt i taste is that black barley, its so intense, charcoal and ash and a little smoke, very bitter and lingering on the tongue forever after the swallow. the berry element doesnt last, hops take it over too, again all bitterness. this is a big beer in that regard, not for the faint of heart, not anywhere near is approachable as some of these, not not mistakable for a porter at all. fuller body but not too thick, and decent carbonation, sort of creamy. the finish is aggressive, but the beer is flavorful, feels sort of wintery too me, and might be nice as a base in some chili or something. hard bomber to drink solo, but i managed...

22 oz bottle served in a lager glass.

An all around excellent Blac IPA, with fine looks including an ample and durable head, an inviting aroma, exceptional mix of dark roasted grain and hop flavors, and a soft and smooth but lively mouthfeel.
Great balance and blending of the hop and malt components - a trait that is all too rare in this style.

Overall: I certainly seem to like Rogue beers, on average, more than the typical beer geek. Two reasons, at least, I would guess. One is that Rogue suffers from some of the negative attitude cast towards some large, established craft brewers. Second, it seems I am a big fan of their proprietary yeast.
