750ml bottle 5,3%Abv.
Served chilled and split between a snifter and a wine glass.
No bottle date.

Appearance: Voodoo Doughnut Chocolate, Banana & Peanut Butter Ale appears a medium brown in the glass, with a back light revealing deep red highlights. A rough pour yields a massive tan coloured head that lasts pretty well and even leaves a little lacing.

Smell: Hmmm, this smells quite as interesting and not quite as bad as I expected given the reviews. The banana and chocolate are well noted, but both seem very fake (chocolate flavouring and banana candy). Other notes include: Stale malt, a toasted note and chocolate peanut brittle.

Taste: Holy shit, now I see why this beer gets such bad reviews! This is honestly the worst tasting beer I have had in years. It tastes like bitter water with cheap chocolate flavouring and stale malt mixed in. There are flashes of off banana candy but it isn't enough to even make this slightly interesting.

Mouthfeel: Good god, things actually get worse here! Light bodied, watery and fizzy soda like carbonation.

Overall: I think this is the first time I have actually been tempted to break my no-drain-pour rule. This beer easily takes the prize for the worst beer from a craft brewery that I have come across.

Poured into a Pint glass showed a beautiful brown/black Ale, small tan head on the second pour which left nice lace but went away quickly. The aroma was banana before pouring...chocolate after being poured and on the second pour was chocolate banana mix, taste went a little on the same lines with chocolate coming out first and stronger banana on the second pour with bitter chocolate as a finish. Mouthfeel was medium and more like a Stout than a Ale but since chocolate is in this I guess one should see that coming, low carbanation also sways to a Stout style. Overall the fact that I never got any peanutbutter in this was kind of a let down, really enjoyed the maple bacon offering and always wait for the flavors to come out as it warms...while as a whole this got better as it warmed but no peanutbutter ever surfaced.

Rogue Ales 'Voodoo Doughnut Chocolate , Banana & Peanut Butter' @ 5.3% , served from that pink 750 ml bottle purchased for $14

A-pour is dark brown from the bottle to a dark chocolate brown in the glass with some crimson red peeking thru the glass edge with a small tan head leaving a spotty lace along the pint

S-candied doughnut & banana on the opening and during the first pour , more candied fruit on the second pour

T-oh so sweet , taste is more pop than beer , don't taste any peanut butter

MF-way too much carbonation , almost like pop , thin thin body

Ov-barely an ok beer , just way too sweet , ' makes me think , why did I buy bottle pink? '

A-pours out fizzy like soda with just as much lack of head. Even looks like soda with its dark cola color.

S-smells like banana flavoring and chocolate flavoring. Smells okay but artificial.

T-comes in with charred cocoa and banana, no peanut butter unfortunately. It's not a terrible flavor, but it comes in and leaves quite quickly. There's not too much to it except a lingering burnt flavor.

M-similar to a soda.wet yet refreshing.

O-I am actually disappointed with Rogue. It's one thing to make a bad beer, it's another to get our hopes up with such an itruiging name. It's not as if it's a terrible beer, but it's definitely not worth buying.

Pours a dark red-brown colour, murky. Head is pale beige, nice small bubbles but a bit thin. Decent, though.

Fucking intense aroma, but I love it. Huge vanilla-bean smell with cinnamon, Benedictine and chocolate liqueur. Utterly unique. Amazing.

Taste is more mellow. Vanilla again, with big cocoa-rich chocolate, some cinnamon and a touch of cardamom. Disappointingly weak at the back though. Sort of runs out of steam, like we're done with the flavour, enjoy raising the kids on your own now I'm done orgasming in your senses. Still that flavour upfront is great. I have no regrets.

Smooth, fluid mouthfeel. No complaints.

I tasted this blind, and have a feeling this will be right up there with my most positive deviations from the norm. But I found this an outstandingly idiosyncratic beer. Amazing flavours just socking you all right up in your tastebuds. No regrets. No complaints.
