On my way down to my friend's place in the South End, I stopped in here to pick up some beer. I have not shopped here in a few years, and things have changed. First off, there is a brand new facade out front, which is pretty sharp looking. Selection of beers is pretty great for the area. When you first walk in, there is a cooler to your right with cold 22 oz bottles and the good old 40s. In the back of the store, there are three set of cooler. On the right, there are all the Belgian and English beers. On the back wall, are all the German, Irish, and Mexican beers and American macros. The left side cooler is where the winners are: a whole wall of American craft beer. Selection runs the gamut from coast to coast. All of the six and four packs you'd see at better beer stores. Nothing extremely unique, but everything you might be looking for when you are hankering for craft beer. Prices were pretty dead on for downtown Boston, while a few here and there seemed a bit pricey. The labels on the doors are a good idea for prices, but it makes it difficult when that beer has moved elsewhere in the cooler, and also the spelling mistakes look kinda sloppy. Service was good, helped me find what I was looking for and the line at the register was fast. I gotta say, this place had more to offer than I was expecting.

I've always underestimated these guys. I only really pop in there after class or when my closer liquor store is closed on Sunday evenings. They have a good selection of micro brews and the predictable standards. They usually have a decent selection of Sam Adams, Harpoon, Brooklyn, Smuttynose and other somewhat regional craft breweries. It's good but not amazing. I really just want to know who orders the beer there. I can't imagine it's the folks behind the counter. Check it out if you are in the area but don't go out of your way.

They also have prices listed underneath the beer and this is helpful especially when buying 4 packs.

They recently renovated the inside of the place and bought castellos liquor license since they closed. The larger section is all micro's, a lot of local and as well from other places around the country and they always have something new. Prices are ok; a six-pack will usually run you $7.50 to $9. Service isn't amazing, pretty much the same employees every time I go in, friendly but they tend to not say much, other then ID and how much money they want. Overall for the size of the place it has a great variety and for anyone looking for liquor in the Back Bay area they probably have the best selection now.

As a Berklee grad, I became very familiar with this place. Everyone I knew called it ghetto mart and it was the place we'd go to pick up a couple 40's of King Cobra or Old English when we were slumming it and didn't feel like dealing with the ID nazi's at the far superior Costello's around the corner.

Basically a 7-11 type convenience store that sells beer and wine. Selection is pretty good. All your common macros, imports, micros and local crafts. They have a small selection of singles as well that mostly focuses on macros and 40's. The people who work there are all very friendly and recognize you if you become a regular.

Overall not worth going out of your way for at all. Costello's around the corner is much better, and of course Bauer Wine and Spirits is another 2 minute walk up the street. Fine if you live in the area, but nothing special.

Located on Mass. Ave. near the Christian Science Mother Church & Berklee, this place carries far more beer than one might expect. In fact, for the size of this tiny store, the selection is very good. Here's what I can remember off the top of my head: A whole lotta Sam, the entire Harpoon line, Sierra Nevada Pale / Seasonal, Anchor Steam, Samuel Smith's, Long Trail Ale / Seasonal, Ipswich Ale / I.P.A., a few Redhook beers, Pete's, all of the Magic Hat beers, Guinness, Bass, Heineken, Stella Artois, Pilsner Urquell, Löwenbräu, Hoegaarden, Hacker-Pschorr, Beck's, Red Stripe, Sapporo, Asahi, Kirin Ichiban...that's about it. All the macros and usual suspects are here too, if you really care.

Aside from the convenient location, I stop in here almost everyday because the staff is the nicest of any beer store in the area (save Bauer's). These guys are really personable and friendly. The beer is always fresh too, and they even have some good deals from time to time.

Edit: The recent renovation has done a lot to improve the selection here. Look for even more micros now: You'll now find Brooklyn and Lagunitas, and they now carry a decent selection German and Belgian imports.
