I had this on tap at Les Brasseurs in Geneva. It was served in a small chalice.

This was the beer special being pushed by the brewpub during my visit. Most of the beer signs in the bar advertised the Lion (except those extolling the virtues of the Saison which they weren't actually serving). The beer was dark reddish to light brown color, and smelled like malt and alcohol. Definitely this had the strongest flavor of all the beers I tried at Les Brasseurs. Maybe too strong, the alcohol was kind of dominant.

If you want a strong Swiss beer, this is the one. But if you're in Geneva and just want some good beer, I recommend going to the Grand Duke Pub instead. Get real UK or Belgian ales and be happy.

Served in a taster glass

Enjoyed at Les Brasseurs while visiting Geneva, Switzerland. Last beer in the flight of all five beers available on-draft while visiting.

A: Hazy yellow. Half fingernail frothy white head.

S: Corriander mixed with white pepper. Hints of caramel, wheat, and amber malt.

T: Pronounced wheat balanced with caramel and a splash of vanilla. Missing that slight vinegar or lactic sourness of a true Flanders Oud Bruin.

M: Medium body with light carbonation.

O: Doesn't drink to style, but a decent beer nonetheless. Could be mis-labeled, but nothing I would seek out again. One and done here.

(From notes)

I fail to see how this is an Oud Bruin, but perhaps the brewpub changed the recipe and kept the same name. I didn't do too much investigating when I sampled this, and should have in retrospect. Nothing like an Oud Bruin at all, and I am not scoring against that style for this review.

Anyway, pours with a hazy light golden hue with a very thin pure white head. Aroma is lagery and yeasty at the same time with some earthy and vegetal notes. Yeastiness really dominates the flavor, but with with some macro lager types of characteristics. Only the faintest of hops sneak in. MF is lighter and a little watery; crisp carbonation. Not even passable drinking, just a messy brew and nothing really good about it in terms of flavor or character. Bland and messy.
