this is one of new yorks best kept secrets, and a beer that is punishingly underrated here on BA. it pours a dense amber color with a sturdy white head, but I like it best from an ice cold can. its got the perfect mix of grain and hops in both aroma and flavor. touches of sweet, dusty red malts are countered before they can even set in by bitter English and American hops, piney for the most part, but a little citric, just a really nice balance and level come complexity not commonly found in this style, despite billions of attempts. at a low abv, its real sessionable for me, and the fuller body but upbeat carbonation keep with that theme. its around all year, but I like it best in early fall, before real heavy beer is up, but long after the summer beers no longer seem right. don't let the funny name and poor ratings deter you, this really is a winner. more of a hoppy amber to me than anything else, this is worth a try if you've never had it, and worth revisiting if you have.
