This is not an IPA - flat hops. Very little floral notes. Tastes like a better carbonated British Ale. Ok - with a hint of grapefruit.
I pass. Too many great competitors in the market.

Heavily carbonated with a lot of malt on the nose. Taste is not quite what I was expecting as the malt and the hops are battling it out for dominance. Not enough to really call it an IPA. OK effort, though !

drain poured... why make an "IPA" without hops? Just why? offensive to American IPAs....

didn't bother to pour this one into a glass after my first (also my last) sip. smell was all malt, not even a good malt. maybe like if you took a piece of caramel candy and let it dissolve into water? taste was slightly more awful than smell, because at least with smell the unpleasantness goes away after a second. with taste it lingers, and lingers, and lingers. really the only thing that this beer has going for it is feel, but really who cares about how the beer feels if you can't get past the taste? I wont even accept this as a free gift from anyone going forward.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. This is a cloudy golden colored beer with a large white head. The beer has heavy carbonation. The aroma is slightly medicinal and soapy, not very inviting. The flavor is medicinal with a slight unpleasant aftertaste. The best part of the beer is the graphics on the can.

Pours a light copper with a nice head just a bit higher than a finger. The malt presence in the nose is as noticeable as the hop presence. The flavor profile is also quite balanced. There is also an odd note in the flavor that is hard to place.

Pale straw yellow with a giant eggshell colored styrafoamy looking head three inches high and not receding at all. Seems overcarbonated, as it was rising up out of the can on its own before I even tilted it toward the glass.

Floral and grainy aroma, some yeasty phenolics. This either uses a belgian or saison yeast, or had an unclean fermentation. Flavor seems to match the aroma, with the addition of some vanilla and a peppery bite. Floral hops are understated. Thin mouthfeel despite all that CO2. Finishes dry. This seems more like a slightly hoppy wit or saison or belgian pale. Not a great IPA.

Picked up a 6 at wf in nyc. Was looking for something local and this was the only thing i could find. Since the hotel had no glasses i drank it old school...from a can. This is a nice session ipa. Refreshing, citrusy, and a little piny but the ibus are probably to low for an ipa...maybe more of an apa...

12 oz. can poured into a tulip glass.

a: Golden body with slight haziness. Thin head with minimal lacing.

s: Malt aroma. Slight sour citrus.

t: Bready up front. Dry citrus and pine finish.

mf: Thin with nice carbonation. Dry peppery finish. Refreshing.

o: A nice little IPA. Tastes more like a pale ale. Feels like a nice summer beer but the alcohol is masked so a few could sneak up on one. I like most of the beers from BB&A. They do a nice job. Their Heinnieweisse is a better example though.

Golden color with a thin head with short retention.
Mild aroma with notes of pale malt and maybe a light grapefruit.
Flavor with notes of grapefruit, lemon, butter on bread, some oxidation and grass. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light to watery body with appropriate carbonation. It is surprising they were able hiding 6.1% under this dress.
That is like a mass version of an IPA, but also meaning I would rather having that than any Adjunct Lager, but it does not kill a craving for a due IPA.

S: earthy, floral;

T: very little flavor up front; earthy at mid-palate; moderate grapefruit rind bitterness at finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: flavor is all over the place, but not in a good way;

Canned 8/8/14. 6.1% ABV per the label.

Pours a murky dark honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, earth, and herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of earth and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that smells sort of like an IPA, but the flavors are more like a super malty amber ale or something of that nature.

Serving type: can.

The can looked funny, it's an IPA, I'm on vacation, so I bought it. Luckily it was on the singles shelf, sadly, I bought 2.

Poured into a pint glass - my first east-coast-can't-get-it-in-Chicago vacation beer. Not a good start.

Clear, golden, thin crisp head gone in an instant. I smell a strong scent of the ocean (oh, wait, I'm on the ocean, this beer doesn't really smell like anything).

The sip is carbonation first, forcing everything else into the tatstebuds. The flavors are a little sour (but like day-old-frat-house rather than Belgium) and unpleasant. A little hop spice, but mostly only after you go looking for it. An unpleasant chemical aftertaste is gone in a flash. All in all what little flavor there is here is not great (or good) but thankfully fades fast.

Did I mention the funny looking can? I liked the fish on the can. I should not have left the other can for my wife and fellow hophead to stumble over, but she unlike me, drainpoured it.

A beer to reach for when you have a small kitchen fire to extinguish. Or if you like funny cartoon fish.

12 oz can, no date

pours a clear golden color, with bone-white head. very good head retention and a bit of lacing. not much hop aroma for an IPA. not much in the taste either. a bit of malt flavor, and a bit of earthy hop flavor. thin body, medium carbonation.

either this can is pretty old, or it didn't start off great.

Undated can at 35 degrees into imperial pint glass
Aroma of apples
Head large (6 cm), off white, creamy, very slowly diminishing to a 3 mm layer.
Lacing good, many islands and reefs of small to medium bubbles
Body medium orange, hazy
Flavor begins with both bitter and sour overtones; not really sure what I’m tasting. There is no distinct fruit, pine, or flower taste; no alcohol, no diacetyl, no malt. This definitely leaves an unpleasant aftertaste with a very long hang time.
Palate medium, watery, soft carbonation.

This has a very pleasing appearance, aroma, and palate. However, the flavor is pretty bad, making me long for a lot of diacetyl or skunkiness. Definitely a Jekyll and Hyde experience.

again, i see a gang mentality when a brew is down...always curious to see how accurate it is...this is a self-declared, non-pretentious venture, so i'm not expecting something from Stone or DFH...

pours nice and energetic with a good foamy white head that lingers then settles in to be experienced...has a nice deep straw or golden appearance

nose is not what i expected, but it's refreshing, short and sweet, not in a cloying way. catching a sort of muscadine note. no hint of hops, but guess folks think all IPAs are supposed to be (over)loaded to the brim with hops oily grapefruitiness...i'm a big fan of such, but thinking this is more old school. not really. simply unique so far

and where it counts: the taste....and, yeah, smooth, quick sweetness like in the nose, but dry finish with a just a quick but more impactful hop fade out. super sessionable. sure, i'd like the finish to linger, but as bad as many are saying this is, what's the complaint? mine is, this is good. very good.

maybe the secret is in their name....BUTTER...i found the Porkslap (not reviewed yet) very buttery, creamy...this has that characteristic, but not as prominently. definitely not thin nor...chewy. pretty much spot on and perfect.

if this was awful, i'd admit it. simple, but not too simple. i give them super kudos for being different in several ways. marketing, art and...a unique, simple approach to brewing 4 basic brew styles. another sip, and i am liking this one even more. seems to have borrowed that black lightning bolt from the stout....a swallow goes quickly through creamy-sweet-fullbodied-bitter-but-dry...and-it's-gone. definitely encourages you to session on.

at the price they are asking, i highly recommend this one

P- Wegman's in Mechanicsburg, PA

A- hazy light copper orange color. Half finger head and the lacing is average.

S- biscuit malts and overripe fruit (grapefruit? orange?)

F- Pungent malts mixed with some sort of fruit. I cant gather a definite taste. The malts are salty and dominate the beer.

M- sourness and excessively dried hops with poor fruit flavoring.

O- One of the worst IPA's I have had. I can definitely taste the can taste coming through towards the end of the beer. the malts and fruit hops just didn't mesh well throughout.

Can from the Wegmans Dewitt NY for 2$

Appearance - Copper colour with an average size fizzy off white coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some faint lacing on the sides of the glass. The head lasted for close to 5 minutes before it began to dissipate.

Smell - Malts, caramel, light hops

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste caramel and malts mixed with light hops. There is also some roasted/toasted notes and a touch of citrus.

Overall - No date on the can, and I can only hope this is old stock, because it's not very good. This is not really American tasting, more of a English style. Wouldn't buy this again.

A - Pours cloudy orange-amber color
S - Strong Grapefruit
T - Difficult to characterize - rotten grapefruit ?
M - Harsh
O - The flavors must come from the farmhouse side, this does not seem like an IPA.

The only way I could justify my purchase of this beer was to write a review. This beer is god-awful. The first thing that hits you is the initial smell. One reviewer called the smell like it is... "Stay away." But I had to push though to experience the flavor...
It's a flavor reminiscent of rotten grapefruits. If I only knew what rotten grapefruits taste like; I can now imagine. And the aftertaste comes in as that feeling you get after sticking a 9-volt battery on your tongue.

I honestly can't see how this beer hit store shelves. It must be an acquired taste.

12 ounce can -> Samuel Adams Perfect Pint

A - pours up an initial hazy medium amber, with a one finger fluffy head, awesome retention, lots of lacing. The haziness eventually subsides and it becomes clear.

S - not much here. Mostly pine from what I can detect

T - malt forward, dry, yeasty, bit of a mild hoppy finish

M - decent with good carbonation.

O - I have no idea what they were going for with this one. It's not horrible, but there have to be far better choices than this for IPAs.

Served from a can poured into a pint glass

A- Light amber in color

S- Very malty in smell. Hints of fruitiness?

T- Taste follows smell. Malty with little to no hoppy bitterness. Not a terrible taste but definitely not what one would expect from an IPA

M- Not much carbonation(no date on can. Maybe it was allitle old?) and pretty easy to drink.

O- Not the worst beer I've ever had but I'm not sure what they were going for. Its tasted way to malty with little hop flavor to back it up

This IPA was bought from a local grocery store in NYC (in the form of 6-pack cans), and was bottled a month and a week ago according to a label.

I poured the beer into a mug, a brown color was present, not much head, not much carbonation were noted. The aroma was reminescent of pine, and was quite pleasant.

However, the taste (this beer's weakest point) was lacking overall, emphatically lacked the hopiness required for this to be a good IPA, and hints of malt/ caramel/ butter was noted.

Mouthfeel was good, easy on the palate, but if i wanted a refreshing beer, i'd turn to Tsingtao.

Overall, this beer was meh, would not buy again.

This beer, while I can see how it may be enjoyable to others, is just not my thing. I'm only recently warming up to IPAs, and I think this is best for some IPA-loving veterans. The hops are way to potent for my taste, and the after taste is very powerful - wheras I prefer a lighter airy after-taste. It's got a certain heavy quality to it that I'm having a hard time putting words to.

Snapper head ipa can, poured into a glass.

Pours dark amber with black background. Layer of white foam on top. Mild malty nose. Taste is a tough bitter blended into a soft malt. Soft and bitter, interesting blend. Good carbonation. Certainly not the best IPA in the business.

Ok, I don't even usually full review, but I drank this then looked it up and 72 overall is absolutely not true IMO. It says farmhouse IPA right on the damn can. All the reviews complain about not being hoppy enough, but it plainly says "all malt" right there. It tastes like a decent farmhouse ale with some east coast hops. I don't love it, maybe would buy again if super fresh, but it's an 82, not 72. Cheers and drink responsibly!

I purchased this from Giant Beer Garden and eatery, enjoyed chilled in an IPA glass from the can.

The color is deep golden amber with 2 fingers of white head with average sized bead. Lace clings well and carbonation is visible. The smell has a noticeable malt presence with light floral/herbal smell in the hop odor with subtle toast smell from the malt with grainy quality. The feel is creamy with medium high carbonation with moderately low bitterness with mild sweetness and subtle spice in the semi-dry finish.

The taste does not have much in the way of hop aroma with light bitterness in the taste more of a creamy malty balanced malt/hop combo of flavor with slight yeast and tea-like hop taste finish is mellow. Overall this is not what I expect from an American IPA-below average for either American or English style with too much malt and not enough hop flavor/bitterness.
