Strong brown Christmas Belgium style ale. Excellent cold weather sipper.

Medium brown color with fluffy tan head. Aroma has toasted malt, brown sugar and warming fruit liquor. Taste starts with toasted malt, bittersweet dark fruits, fruit seeds, some brown sugar taste but without the sweetness, some earthy wood like bitterness building up towards the finish. Medium plus body, really smooth on the palate with warming alcohol. This one was better than I expected. It has a belgian strong dark ale character but without being sweet or yeasty.

A good beer of Belgian style. He had not tried any of the other editions. He has not fascinated me, despite recognizing that beer is fine, I miss personality.

A: Pours cola brown with a tan head that barely leaves lacing and dissipates to a thin ring around the edge of the glass.

S. The aromas are subtle. Caramelized sugar on the nose, raisin/date/fig, banana, milk chocolate, cocoa, gingerbread and the orange peel does come through to me. Just enough alcohol. I'm not getting any coriander.

T: Burnt dark bread, cocoa, some dark dried fruit Burnt sugar bitterness on the finish which is quite dry.

M: Pillowy soft with some carbonation.

D: A highly drinkable beer at 10.9% that is not overly sweet or overdone with spices. It's dry and bitter and goes very nicely with a sweet treat such as Swedish pepparkakor

Tricks me from the nose to the taste. Nice warm. Alcohol muddles the flavor slightly. Overall a solid seasonal strong ale.

A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 17th August 2026. Poured into a Lost Abbey teku glass.

Appearance: A dark amber brown colour with a big three finger off white head that had good retention and left great sticky lacing.

Aroma: Caramel, sweet malts, dark fruit plum and raisins with a hint of chocolate.

Taste: Sweet caramel and toffee, plum, raisins, candied sugar, black coffee bitterness, orange, spices and booze.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: It’s probably overly sweet for my liking. In addition there is quite a lot of booze coming through especially as it warms and in the end, probably too much.

btw, I believe this is a 'Dark Strong Ale', not a 'Strong Pale Ale', as the description suggests. This is one of the better Belgian Dark Strong Ales I've had. I get the spicy-ness in here, but as I don't care for it, I'm glad it's not overwhelming.
