In the beer geek breakfast series – the beer that really put Mikkeller on the map, we decided to shake things up by adding a truck load of vanilla to the french press coffee trick, creating a whole new dimension to the beer that are loved by freaks and geeks worldwide. Not only that, we then placed it in bourbon barrels for 8 months for a truly unique beer experience. Aromas are sweet filled with vanilla. Palate starts with milky sweetness and offers roasted malts, chocolate and coffee.

Tasted on tap at Ansari's grill Eagan, MN. The smell and taste of this is an absolute vanilla bomb. Thick, creamy with very little carbonation. Amazing.

2021 version served in a 5oz glass at the Mikkeller tasting room in Little Italy, San Diego. They list the distinction of the 2021 version here:
"Inspired by the European-produced, Mikkeller instant-classic, Beer Geek Vanilla Shake, we treated our San Diego-brewed version with a truckload of Ecuador Tahitensis and Vanuata Planifolia vanilla beans, before finishing with some of those most incredible Yemen Mokka Matari coffee from our homies at Mostra Coffee so that we could realllllllly push the boundaries."
It smells super aromatic. Deep thick texture with just the right carbonation. Properly flavorful. So much vanilla it tastes like chocolate. It's a bit bitter, but pretty smooth to the point it's hard to stop sipping on it. Super thick and syrupy in consistency. Black with no opacity even when put to light, save for some slight mahogany around the edges. The coffee notes come through boldly in the finish. It's simply a fine stout and one of the best I ever tasted.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Great spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, and bourbon barrel notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of molasses, toffee, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an amazing malt/bitterness, and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a VERY silky, velvety, and slick mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 13.4%. Overall this is an amazing BBA imperial stout. All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, vanilla, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example.

On tap. Tan head. Black color.
Vanilla bomb. Sweet. Big barrel flavor. A bit of char however. Chocolate and cocoa. Oaky. Fairly smooth. Full bodied. Ends with roasted malts.
Not OG vanilla shake, but really solid.
