Bottle to tulip. This IPA is deep in color. And the taste matches its depth. VERY HOPPY! I love it (although it's expensive). No complaints here; just make sure to get it while it's fresh. I'm excited about trying the other Mikkeller single hop IPAs.

7.3% abv according to the can. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours a transparent golden with a fluffy off-white head that leaves great retention and lacing. The aromas are very nice. Lots of tropical notes with some citrus in the mix as well. Lots of pineapple, peach and mango. Subtle malts. The flavors are bold and follow the nose. More of those tropical fruits along with grapefruit. Fresh pine needles in the mix. Some pine resin too. Bitter finish, but there are some malts to cut it down. Mouthfeel is nice. It's medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Creamy and fluffy. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Very smooth.

This is a very nice IPA. Great use of simcoe. It's nice to see this in cans. Well done.

.... Sam brought this over tonight .... just chillin' drinkin'.. This was the first "special beer" of the night... Thanks Sam!!

Poured into my small La Trappe glass.. pretty clear orangey/copper brew.. eggshell head..

Nose is surprisingly fresh hoppiness .. big fruity hoppiness accentuated by a good punch of toasty malts.. mildly funky/skunky hoppiness..

Flavor is pretty bitter out of the gate... interesting hoppiness reminds me of pineapple and pithy tangerine.. some pine too.. significant yet sorta lite caramel malt add dimension to this brew.. toasty malts ... good medium body and a nice everpresent yet smooth carbonation...

I am sure that the first DIPA's blurred the lines from the bigger IPA's.... and this one makes me think just from the fairly sweet malt backbone and the big bitterness that it is a lesser DIPA or a pretty damn good IPA...

Thanks Sam... I liked this one.. but it made me think.

On tap at The Lion's Pride.
A beautiful beer. In a tulip glass it was a hazy orange/red color with a thick tan head. A sheet of lace.
Intense floral aroma. Sweet.
Resinous pine taste, a little grapefruit, sweet malt.
The flavors all work well with each other, making this a very balanced and smooth beer.
A wonderful beer. Maybe my favorite IPA.

A: Very dark amber pour with a huge fluffy off-white head. Sticks around forever and sticks to the glass well too.

S: Smells exactly like cat urine. Though, somehow in a pleasant way. I'm not sure how I can quantify that but if you've ever smelled cat urine, simcoe just jumps out at you.

T: Spicy and citrusy at the same time. Aftertastes lasts a long time and never really seems to fade much between sips.

M: Pretty medium bodied. Pretty smooth beer. As mentioned above, bittering aftertaste sticks around quite well.

D: Not bad. I think I might put this one second after the Citra single hop version. Simple but an intriguing experiment - this one (like the Citra) could almost stand on its own as a normal IPA.

How fun is this series! Some of these single hops are among my favorite beers ever. This is a very good one but not my favorite. The hops linger very long after the each sip which is a combination of good and creepy.

Great brass color. Good carbonation and aroma great beer all around.

Appearance. Pours a hazy amber-brown with 2 fingers of sticky, thick white head that leaves some nice bands of lace.

Smell. Peaches, apples, grapefruit and floral perfume. Just a little caramel in there. Smells good.

Taste. Apples, grapefruit and lemon rinds, caramel, and a little pine sap. Bitter floral-citrus hops in the finish.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with medium carbonation.

Overall. Nice ipa that shows off the simcoe hop. Easy to drink with great hop flavours.

Thanks Sammy! Another fine choice.

A - Hazy apple cider.  Nice white head with a mixed bubble structure.  Nice lace, ok retention.

S - Deep malt tones with surprisingly little hops. Fresh breads, caramel, and a touch of yellow raisin.

T - Rich, sweet, caramel malt escalates steadily into a bright woody hop crescendo.

M - Medium/light body.  Low carbonation.

O - A really interesting, malt-forward IPA with a solid hop backbone and a unique flavor profile progression.

A: Excessive head on a medium pour, as the head drops is leaves a rocky layer over the top, some sticky patches appear along the edges of the glass, the color reminds me of a weak iced tea - 4.00, S: The Simcoe hops are there in all their glory, lots of pine and a hint of citrus is noticeable on the nose, signs of tropical fruits, I smell what reminds me of wet wood and earthiness, glorious aromas that pay a worthy tribute to the Simcoe hops - 4.50, T: Pine is the first flavor to jump out at me but it isn't in your face, a nice non-aggressive bitterness, grapefruit and pineapple flavors as well, ever so slightly resiny - 4.50, M: The low carbonation on the tongue provides a creamy and smooth palate - 4.25, D: One of the better IPAs I've had in some time, Simcoe has quickly climbed the ranks in terms of my favorite hops and Mikkeller has done it justice, if the price wasn't $5.99 a bottle - I'd be drinking this often - 4.50

Best by 22/10/10 on cap (seems like quite a bit for an IPA).

Pours hazed orange to dark amber with a thin white head that lasts.

The smell is of pine, some bread, some caramel.

The taste is of pine/resin with caramel/toffee backing. On the sweeter side for an IPA though there is some bitterness.

The feel is medium to full with a snappy carbonation and lasting coating.

ABV well-covered. An enjoyable IPA that showcases Simcoe hops well with a balancing malt background.

A: Hazy orange with a enormous foam and lots of lacing.

S: Grapefruit, Cheese(!), Hay, Pine, Grass.

T: Orange, Grapefruit, Grass, Caramel, Hint of grain.

M: Nicely balanced ipa with plenty of malt and hops. Fruity!

Very nice AIPA from Mikkeller that i'd probably would buy more of if it wasn't for the somewhat expensive price.

Pours a hazy copper wth a big off-white colored head. Loads of chunky sediment in there, lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is of hops of course. Sharp citrus and pine aromas, along with some fresh cut grass.

Lots of bitter hoppiness. Very grassy, fruity, citrusy, and pine. There is a hint of malt in the background. Basically it tastes like it smells, probably better actually. Medium bodied, pleasantly carbonated, finishes a bit dry. Pretty good beer, though not sure its worth $5+ a pop, but I've paid more for worse.

Enjoyed in a pint glass.
A: Aggressive pour yields 3 fingers of off-white pillowy head with great retention. Chill hazy dark amber gold liquid. Pretty! Exactly as I expect an AIPA. Lots of chunks though :-(
S: Sweet fruit with musty undertones, like grapefruit and pineapple with marijuana in background.
T: Herbal, not as bitter as I expected. Good estery highlights. Strong, but not exceptional. It's strength is in how well executed it is. Strong on fundamentals without a lot of razzle-dazzle.
M: Bitter comes through more on the mouthfeel. Smooth too.
D: I'd order another and buy six if it wasn't cost prohibitive ($5.99/1!)
