i dont think i recall ever having a sontan single raspberry, but i love raspberries and have been a huge supporter of this series, so i was stoked to see this one on tap when we visited their new york brewery. it pours a deep ruby red color, glassy looking, with a short white head and nice clarity and shine. it is the absolute essence of the fruit, really it is, ripe and bursting with summery juiciness, tang and jammy concentrated berry sweetness, set nicely alongside the classic lambic funk this series is known for, not quite as tart as some of the others, i think picking up a little more sugar than tartness from the fruit, but the wild fermentation element is still awesome, and they work so well together. there is an almost candied element to the fruit, but still so natural too, winey oak, and bretty funk are there as well, good depth and complexity here, mild acidity, explosive fruit. raspberry just always seems to lend itself so well to funky beer like this, and this is a great example of that. not so intense on the fruit as i thought the double in the name would indicate, but it looks likes there is a triple and a quadruple raspberry in the lineup as well, i need to find a way to score those! this is delicious, as good as any in the series.

Review as a reminder to not drink again
Yes it looks and smells the biz, all deep reds and nice head and raspberries on the nose
And the first sip is ok
It’s sour and it’s... not very drinkable after that - a bit of a mismatch of barrel and fruit ...

Pours a very dark, deep red with some wispy pink foam.

Smell is sour and brimming with raspberries, raspberry jam and a hint of dried apricot.

Taste is powerfully sour, absolutely mouthpuckering in it's intensity. Tons of raspberries along with the odd blackberry and red currant tingle the palate before the long, bone dry finish. One to sip slowly, and share.

Mouthfeel is medium and a bit coarse, well carbonated.

Overall, one of the most intense sours I've had, and a whole 375 ml bottle was a bit much in one sitting. Damn tasty though.
