Good beer, to me it tastes very similar to Dogfish Immort ale. This beer smells exactly like honey though.

Acquisition: 02.25.2015 - Bottle Bar, Frankford Avenue - PHL 19125

(Appearance) OK. Deep amber / red color. Bottle conditioned, nice head retention with good lacing. Cloudy, chill haze, yeast? I was carefully pouring this beer and still caught a lot of yeast.

(Aroma) Below Average. I think this is an old sample. Their is very little hop aroma, and the malt that is breaking through isn't happy to be there? A little candy sugar, maybe Amarillo?

(Taste) OK. This beer taste better that it looks and smells due to the malt character. Round, candy, belgian fruitiness, sweet. Nice weight and with soft carbonation.

(Overall) OK. I wouldn't take too much from my review, I think this beer has waited a while to be drank? I bet it is fairly decent when its fresh. I do take issue with label representation. The beer is named GREEN GOLD, I taste a home-breweques belgian ale. I have no issue with breaking style but the beer seams confused. Maybe Mikkeller thought he needed to walk the belgian beer drinkers pallet slowly? Speculation, but It's neither a good American-Style India Pale Ale as stated, or a Belgian Ale.

Hazy, cloudy beer. Malt assails you on the aroma. Malt driven with flavors of pine and caramel. Not my kind of IPA.

Its blood orange unfiltered body reminds me of some of the first American style IPA's I've had. Two fingers of creamy, tightly knit off white head boasts a good level of retention. Sticky patches of lace appear as soon as the head starts to recede.

The core is almost rich. Plenty of fresh bread and sweet toffee. Pithy citrus is coated on top, most notably grapefruit. A bit of mango skin is in there as well. Grass clippings give the nose some zip. More malt forward than what I was expecting. This could be due to it sitting on the LCBO shelves for who knows how long before I picked it up. The taste should be a better indicator of that.

Classic notes of pine needle and grapefruit quickly coat the palate. It's prickly and a bit sappy. A leafy, unrefined bitterness lingers past the finish. There's still plenty of malt backing it. I'm surprised at how tame the malt bill is, especially in comparison to the nose. I find it to contribute more to its weight than to its sweetness, although the sweet aspect is still there with streaks of rich bread in the middle.

Medium bodied. A bit sticky and a bit sappy with a pleasant creaminess. The finish is dry and bitter; as an IPA should be.

This for me, although not my favorite, is a classic take on an American IPA. Grapefruit and pine needle and a bit unrefined, both in its bitterness and it foregoing the filtration process, with just enough stickiness to make you lick your lips. It's nothing out of the ordinary but it's void of any real flaws and a pleasure to drink at 7%.

Very dark for an IPA. Opaque, unfiltered, dark toffe brown. One inch of beige heads of bubbles of mixed sizes. Head lasted to the bottom. Good lacing leaving dots on the glass.

Rich citrus aroma. Grapfruit and mango with a hint of toffee from the malt.

Big flavours in the taste. Burnt nutty grainy malt. Bitter grapefruit. Earthy pine taste. Sharp bitter aftertaste. You can taste the alcohol.

Full mouthfeel. Chewy. Great.

This is not your typical AIPA. The dark malts add tremendously to the complex flavours. The west coast hops are present in spades. I only wish there was less alcohol taste. First rate.
