December 14th, 2015 - This is another bottle plucked from the must and cobwebs of a suburban basement in Colorado, with the "To" and "From" label still blank. Today, it is from me and to me. It pours a dark and inky color with a subtle light brown head, and offers a slightly sour scent which, with the holidays approaching, I am biased to say might be cranberry. But there's a darker and umami rich hit of soy sauce, and some dark chocolate in the malt base keeping this somewhere between a winter warmer and a porter. And darker still is the flavor, which establishes the heartiness and bitterness of a start, with a little tang on the side offering an additional dimension to the flavor structure. Also notable are the rich and gourmet chocolate notes, adorned with a light raisin fruitiness and a puff of pipe tobacco. This is a fantastic and pensive holiday beer, and well worth keeping to yourself, even if the label strongly suggests gifting it to your favorite beer drinking loved one.

This beer poured from an 11.2 oz bottle that I purchased at a local craft beer store. The beer poured a dark coffee color with a foamy light brown head that was about two finder-widths thick. There was ample lacing.
The aroma of this beer was coffee-like with hints of vanilla, raisin and gingerbread.
The initial taste was smokey and in the middle the dominant taste is roasted malt and cocoa. The beer finishes slightly fruity.
The mouthfeel was pretty thick and creamy.
Overall, I would not call this a Christmas Ale. This beer was more like a chocolate stout. It was good, but does not match the style.

Large, undated bottle but, based on the label design, this is the 2012 version. 8% ABV.
Pours with a full size, durable tan head. Good lacing.
The aroma (6.5) is complex and spicy. The flavor differs from what the aroma suggests but remains complex and spicy, with winter spices dominant. There are some dark fruit notes and plenty of dark roasted grains as well, plus hints of chocolate and coffee.

listed on the "1001", and in the holiday spirit, it deserves to be on the list.

I can tell where they were going with this one, unfortunately for me, I got the bottle to late to get there. The beer is starting to go sour ( I bought several as Christmas gifts too :( ) The flavors of the beer couple with its turning don't work well together.

Sampling right now on 4/9/15. Comes in a pretty green 'wine bottle' that is 375ml or 12.7 ounce. BEST BUY DATE: 20/03/18 on back of label. Fra: MIKE and Til: MIKE. Since I bought it and drank it myself. LOL! From the Mikkeller At De Proef Brouweru, Lochristi-Hulfe in Belgium. Bought the brew yesterday on 4/8/15 at the local Hy-Vee just 20 mins away over in Council Bluffs, Iowa and was marked down to just $5.00 and the last one left in the discount bin. Regular price around Christmas is $10.00. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees in my beer cooler and poured in to a snifter glass.
This 'Baltic Porter' style brew pours a pitch black in color with almost a 2-finger beige foamy head that finally settles down to a thin layer on top with more along the sides of the glass. The aroma of this "Holiday Ale brewed with spices & aged in a Brandy Barrels' is of various spices with roasted dark malts. More going on with the taste as there are many spices in the mix that I have no clue of what they are actually. So I will guess, some star anise, maybe some cloves and cinnamon and ? Anyway, there is lots of other flavors in the mix also with some burnt brown sugar, molasses, chocolate with some oak (?) and a hint of brandy from the barrels it was aged in. LOTS going on! Finishes with a slight bitter finish but doesn't last long. Full-bodied brew with good carbonation. Here is another 'sipper brew' and actually tasted better when it was warmed up. Overall it is different but good.
