Black as black with a thin brown head and sheets and spiderwebs of lace left all the way down the glass. Shiny and gorgeous.

A very aromatic stout consisting of plenty of roasted malts and rich, authentic coffee along with a note of molasses sweetness.

The flavor follows the aroma very similarly: coffee is leading the way, followed by roasted malt, and sweet molasses.

Big, thick, luscious mouthfeel.

Easily my favorite Mikkeller offering so far.

16 oz bottle split and poured into an imperial pint. 10.9% ABV, no date.

Thanks to Beerwolf77 for another black-as-night beer!

A - Totally black with an amazing cascading dark chocolate tan head. Massive dense two-and-a-half finger head with low retention and thin lace that looks like textured translucent laminate. Maybe it's all the left-over civet poop.

S - Dry and bitter roasted malts with mild chocolate and a hint of coffee. A bit disappointing in the coffee level for it being brewed with coffee. Very roasted bitter aroma. The oats barely poke through the finish. No civet poop aroma.

T - Deep roasted malts with a drizzle-hint of molasses and a crumble of chocolate flakes but little in the way of coffee again. The oats poke through a little like the aroma but it falls mainly into the roasted malt area. Again, no civet poop flavor.

M - Full-bodied and smooth with a rich feel and flavor. Soft and round, the oats are a nice touch and balance. Mild balance of sweet malts and bitterness. Not filled with chunks of civet poop either so that's nice.

D - Good flavor and good drinkability for it's rich profile but I'm disappointed in both the lack of coffee and civet poop. (I'm kidding about one of the two. Guess which.)

Poured into a snifter.

Pours opaque and thick, black with a reddish-tinted dark tan head.

Aromas of coffee beans, dark (but not quite bitter) chocolate, fresh leaves, and sweet caramel. Milk chocolate on the palate, light-ish on the coffee. Leafy. Slightly acidic. Considerable dark fruit notes (fig? plum?).

Medium to heavy in body, with a chocolately, creamy consistency. Easy and smooth.

Impressive thick and dense dark tan head. Lots of ring lace. Near black in color. No light passes through.

Coffee and cream aroma.

Very dark flavors of black patent, almost like espresso. Lighter body than I expected. Lots of chewy burnt malts--subtle dark molasses sweetness in the background. The aftertaste is quite bitter.

Pours a black color. 2/3 inch head of a dark tan color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of alcohol, sweet malt, roasted malt, and strong hops. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, roasted malt, alcohol, slight hops, hint of coffee, and a slight acidic/tangy citric note. Overall, great appearance, good feel, body, and blend. This is style of American Double is more to liking than the over-the-top alcohol dominated styles. The alcohol is clearly present, but is balanced well with the malt and hops bitterness as well as the tang. This was a fantastic sipping beer.

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a small snifter glass.

A: Color is black trailing to a dark brown at the edge. Pours with a 3/4 inch bright brown head that slowly dissipates to a thin brown film on top. Nice lacing on the edge of the glass.

S: First smell is very earthy. Pulled from the fridge, this beer needed some time to warm-up and open up. As it did, the dark cocoa and coffee aromas became more apparent. Smells like dark roasted espresso beans. Also getting a faint, but deep woodsy scent.

T: Wow, the flavors are intense. Way more than anticipated from the smell. Solid blast of smokey, roasted coffee flavors early. Flavor continues to be very earthy, very strong. Mid taste, chocolate and some faint sweetness from the malts show up with a lingering coffee bitterness. The heat from the alcohol slowly builds and there is a nice warmth on the finish. Finish is long and outside of the warmth from the alcohol, reminds me of drinking good dark coffee.

M: Big body, thick, clingy. This is a meal, definitely a sipper. Carbonation moderate, about right. Edit: marked down a notch due to increasing graininess as I got towards the of the bottle. Last two or three tablespoons of last pour were dumped due to heavy sediment.

D: Not an everyday beer, even putting aside the price. I'm glad I got to try this though. One of the most intense flavor experiences yet. The coffee literally smacks you in the face on first taste. While I will definitely have this again, I wouldn't consider it an easy to drink beer. Edit: I dropped one rating because this beer literally became tiring to drink. I had about 4/5 of the bottle and that was too much in one 90-minute session.

A: Pours a pitch black body with a foamy dark toffee head that leaves a thick, smoky lacing.

S: Pure cocoa, roasted coffee bean and oats are the stars here with cinnamon, alcohol and smoked meat as a supporting cast.

T: Very smooth coffee and roasted malts, slightly on the sweet side but with some acidity. Laces your mouth with tobacco - pipe tobacco. Get a quick shot of the alcohol. A slightly bitter cocoa finish. Intense.

M: Leaves your mouth tingling and salivating, and coats it with tobacco - like the best cigar you've had. Maybe the beer's strongest point.

D: It's absurdly heavy and intense and not that drinkable for the style. Take it slow.

500mL bottle poured into tulip

Pours a deep opaque blackness with a fluffy tanned head resting on top. Slick, oily retention across the beer with spotty rings of lacing no the glass.

Very rich and robust in the nose with cocoa, caramel and molasses. Roasted coffee beans and dark malt with a hint of bitterness. Soft alcohol warmth.

Soft notion of bitter hops up front followed by an avalanche of deep, roasted dark malt flavor. Dark chocolate and cocoa with caramel. Some hints of molasses and syrup with a slightly bitter blast of coffee. Burly backbone, full-flavored and overall pretty sweet. Finishes warm and sticky.

Full bodied, decent carbonation, sticky and chewy on the tongue, pretty soft and smooth. A rich beer overall, nice coffee and chocolate flavor.

A: Opaque & viscous black, brown head has good retention, body is oily.

S: Spicy earthy coffee, lighter roasted component, a bit astringent. Coffee really dominates.

T: Spicy coffee, medium roast blend, mild chocolate, lots of spicy notes and prominent espresso notes.

MF: Spicy & viscous, a bit oily medium-to-full mouthfeel.

O: A good coffee beer, but not my favorite, I think the coffee could have been more pleasant and less astringent.

A-Pours a midnight,black body with a cap of 2 1/2 inches of dark tawny foam that died slowly leaving gorgeous,full rings of gummy lacing on my tulip.

S-Strong,high quality coffee,creamy toasted oats,rich dark chocolate ganache,scalded milk and burnt sugars with an earthy/ashy note of wood and slightly burnt coffee.

T-Rich,complex coffee,hearty oats,fully charred malts,bitter chocolate and more ash.

M-Medium bodied with a well developed complexity and richness.Perfect bitterness and creamy richness in the mouth.

O-Pricey but worthwhile.

Black pour with a huge, frothy, tan head. Very rich espresso/cappuccino like aroma. There's also quite a bit of high quality dark chocolate aroma in there, with a hint of dark fruit and cream. The flavor is loaded with delicious dark roasted espresso and milk chocolate. The bitterness of the coffee beans really lingers on the tongue along with some dark chocolate. The body is an oily medium-full feel. It's not nearly as full and as intense as I expected it to be. Just really well balanced and it lets the quality of the coffee beans used shine.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a dark brown color head with great retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of dry coffee is quite particular and very interesting. Taste is a nice mix between some unique dry coffee that is very well balanced by some black chocolate malt with lingering bitterness form the roasted cereal. Body is full with a creamy palate and some great carbonation with no apparent alcohol which is nice considering this is sometime an issue with this brewer. Very much well done but still don't totally get the hype surrounding this beer.

Pours a two finger brown head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Totally black color, some yeast (I hope that's what it is) left in bottle. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Roasted coffee nose and flavor is roasted coffee and some malty sweetness, seems like a decent imp oatmeal stout without detecting any weasel turds but then I always take a pass when the weasel turds are passed around so I don't know what they taste like. Expensive at $15.80 for a 500ml bottle from Tully's Beer and Wine Wells, ME.

4-5 oz. from the 22 oz. bottle on March 24th, 2011 in my mini snifter - one of 10 beers in my stout tasting; from notes.

A - Yup black as as hell, not quite oily but lots of alcohol feet on the sides of the glass, very opaque, no head, just a few bubbles linger.

S - More caramel sweetness than anything else, not much coffee (and what coffee beans are present seem a bit funky), slight dark fruit.

T - Way better than the nose. Sweetness dominates at the front of the tongue, bitter coffee character doesn't appear until the backend. Good dark chocolate quality. Overall, very nice drink. Wishing 4.75 was a possible rating, this one will get a lower score than it deserves.

M - Medium to medium-thick, not overly viscous or heavy. Smooth, good carbonation.

D - Average drinkability, slight abv presence. Taste is really, really solid but the aroma was rather bizarre with a strange "coffee-gone-bad" funk to it or something. Maybe that's just the nature of the Kopi Luwak in there. Also sort of wishing more of the coffee character showed up in the taste. Also, it's a bit too expensive for the 22 oz. but appropriate in a tasting setting.

Enjoyed right before Super Bowl kickoff. Pours black with a small tan head. Looks good. Smell was a bit of a let down. Smells of coffee and a bit of booze, but lacking the richness I was expecting. The flavor is of strong, delicious coffee, balanced with a small amount of creaminess. It finishes with a bit of bitterness and booziness that is not as pleasant as the front. Again, the creaminess in the mouth is spot on, not over done but providing good balance. This goes down very smooth and could be quaffed rapidly if one did that with $14 bottles of beer.

Pours a deep, dark brownish black. There's a 1/4" of head with great retention. Licorice and deep, dark, coffee, roasted malts that dominate the nose. Taste is thick, malty, roasted, and licorice. Viscous, oily, deep; all around dark, deep, rich.

This beer is rich and smooth but a little thick and warm. Overall, a decent beer. Thick, viscous, potent, complex...AWESOME!

16.9oz bottle poured into Sprecher snifter.

A- Pours a very dark brown with a finger's worth of mocha head. The head recedes quickly and doesn't leave much for lacing. Just a small amount around the rim of the beer.

S- Very smooth coffee and chocolate greet the nose right away. Some nice roasted malts and good brown sugar.

T- The coffee is very smooth and not bitter like some other coffee stouts. The oatmeal helps smooth it out. A little bit of sweetness, most likely brown sugar and some roasted malts. The alcohol stays well hidden.

M- Medium to full bodied that is very smooth. No real feel of carbonation on the tongue but by no means flat. Just a tad bit of heat on the back of the throat from the alcohol.

D- Goes down about as easy as an imperial stout can. Great mouthfeel that is like silk. I am glad I was able to try this although it may be a tad gimmicky but a good beer nonetheless.

Poured into a Corsendonk tulip.

Typical stout appearance with a very dark brownish-black color with a thin mocha head, which leaves a good amount of dotted lacing. Big transparent layer of alcoholic legs above the black too. On the second round of glass filling, the brew left a total gritty, sandlike coating all over the glass. Smell has a nicely moderate coffee bean roast quality, with a robust amount of dark chocolate decadence. Little malt presence overall and some hints of the alcoholic heat.

The taste has a full malt backbone with a great black coffee characteristic overall. There is also a nice dark bittersweet chocolate richness from beginning to end. Not much of an oatmeal quality to the flavor characteristics of the beer either. Considerably straight-forward overall, but real tasty.

Mouthfeel is incredibly full and rich, with an above average silkier feel. I can guess that that's where the oatmeal comes to play. Particularly chewy and leaves a nice internal coating to the mouth. Drinkability is moderately good; one could possibly finish a bottle by oneself, but it's better to share. Given the shock quality of how this beer is made, it's surprisingly good. Probably my favorite out of the Beer Geek line.

Picked this one up before leaving the Philly area. Loud whoosh when the cap was popped. Carbonation looked to be well integrated during the pour, with a 2 inch cap of fluffy brown foam developing only after the beer was in the glass. Sticky, clumpy lacing. This is not a beer you can really see though, even at the edges. Roast, coffee, and chocolate aromas dominated. Lots of malt, some caramel and charcoal. Malty and sweet with a bitter chocolate flavour, balanced bitterness throughout. Roast was mild, but picked up a bit towards the end. Slight sour cherry character. Lingering bitterness from roasted grains and coffee. Light alcohol warmth. Full bodied with smooth, low carbonation. Silky, but with some astringency from the dark grain. Pretty good stuff. The roast was milder than I expected, but still played a major role.

Poured into a snifter

Black as night color with a tan one finger head. Smell is of a sweet coffee, with hints of berry in the nose. I can't pinpoint the exact type of berry. Taste is a fruity coffee flavor with decent bitterness on the back end. Mouthfeel is full bodied real creamy and decent carbonation. Pretty good drinkability for its 10.9 abv. Overall a good beer.

My first beer drank using the weasel shit coffee. I'm not completely down with the idea of it, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway, thanks to the Old Toad crew at the Ithaca Luminous release.

Pours a dark black, not much foam or head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells include coffee, chocolate, and vanilla.

The taste is pretty similar. There are some dark fruit flavors that are nice, and not present in the Beer Geek Breakfast. The coffee flavor is nice, but I don't know how much the "specialty coffee" adds to it any more than regular coffee.

Medium bodied, could be thicker for an imperial. Creamy mouthfeel, low carbonation.

A decent imperial coffee stout, though I have had better.

A- This beer pours a jet black body with a deep dark tan head that boils like molten toffee that soon disappears.
S- This beer has a tart black barley note with a doughy oatmeal hint and a herbal green hop hint that grows a bit as the beer warms.
T- There is a smooth mellow flavor to a dark roasted coffee flavor with a slight honey sweet hint. There are some dark roasted malt flavor with a char hint and an oak hint to follow. The finish is a nice dark roasted coffee bitterness with a soft bitterness that lingers.
M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with no alcohol heat and a smooth.
D- This beer has a dark roasted but smooth and well-blended flavor. The bitterness grows a bit as the beer warms.

Appearance is dark and near-black, but maintains an obvious brown tinge. Head is brown and an absolute gusher - I poured this extremely gently and still nearly had an overflow. About 3 fingers thick. Retains well with a frothy, bubble head that slowly recedes to a crown, and then disappears entirely a while after that. Lacing is quite good - I had to break this up into two pours...the first had spotty lacing, and the second absolutely plastered my glass. Not sure if that's because the previous pour had 'tainted' the glass some, or if there was sediment lower in the bottle.

The aroma and taste are first and foremost coffee/espresso, with dominant notes of roasted malts. There also were some more subtler hints of dark fruits. Taste is not overly bitter, and doesn't leave too much of an aftertaste. But you definitely walk away with that "coffee breath" feeling. This taste is just strong. Mouthfeel is superb - creamy, thick and chewy. Carbonation is a tad higher than I would have preferred, but still moderate overall. I must say, I found the alcohol to be quite well concealed. I never really picked up any boozy notes.

This is an intense and heavy brew, so drinkability is moderate. Very enjoyable, but I think I have to give the nod to the Breakfast as opposed to the Brunch.

Appearance - Pours a deep brown, almost black, with a one-finger brown head. Looks rich and viscous.

Smell - Aroma of roasted malts and rich chocolate. Not so much coffee, really, which surprised me.

Taste - The taste is very chocolatey as well, but with a prevalent coffee taste. The coffee isn't overwhelming at all. It allows the stout flavors to come through. There is a lingering bitterness that prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying.

Mouthfeel - Great consistency. Medium carbonation. Par for the style. The mouthfeel is thick enough to feel like an imperial stout, but not so much that I couldn't put it away like nothing.

Overall - Great imperial stout. I don't think many people would notice what kind of coffee it is, so I must admit that it's gimmicky. But I'm drinking beer, not coffee, and the beer was good so I'm happy.

Appearance: Black color with a mocha head that doesnt really develop too much, looks great

Nose: Oatmeal, coffee, chocolate and some plums with plenty of toasty malt

Taste: Oatmeal, coffee, with burnt toast and heavy malt

Mouth: Viscous and syrupy with bitter coffee and sweet malt balance

Overall: This is a good breakfast stout, very smooth but could use a bit of refinement
