Nice copper color with a thick thin beige head with short retention.
Sweet aroma with notes of molasses, Bretta during opening, toasted malts, pine, apricot, pears and apple puree.
Pleasant flavor with notes of pears, toasted malts, molasses, candi sugar, elegant and subtle funkiness from Bretta, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves, some citrusy, licorice, plums, vinegar drops, raisins and Belgian yeast. Dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness.
Medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 9.39% is superbly well hidden. This is an example how to hide such high abv content.
Interesting and pleasant to drink Belgian Strong “not so” Golden Ale with great complexity. Although spices and fruity notes were average down, Brettanomyces and different to style malt combination gave it an original twist. A bit on the sweet side, though. I felt like a mix of Flanders Red Ale with Belgian Strong Golden Ale.
I bought this over 4 years ago (and who knows when this was bottled) and this has aged perfectly.

Best by 1/21/2026. January 2016 bottle date?

Pours a cloudy dark amber color. The head is half a finger high and off-white in shade. Even with what little head there is, retention is poor. No lacing sticks to the glass, either. U-g-l-y, you ain't got no alibi.

Hmm, I really don't pick up much funk on the nose. Really, it's hard to discern this from a standard strong Belgian ale. On the other hand, the aroma offers notes of candied sugar, lychee, vanilla, and pears. It offers a pleasant sweetness, but there isn't much in the way of nuanced spice or balancing bitterness. Even letting this open up some, the brett is still almost completely hidden. That's disappointing.

The flavor works better. It starts off with a gentle vanilla note, giving way to some ester flavors near the middle and finish. Want something that tastes like lychee? Here's your beer. I'm impressed with the lychee notes, but little else. At least it ends with a gentle bitterness that cleanses the sweet qualities well. If it sounds like I forgot about the brett, apparently so did Mikkeller.

While the head didn't suggest it, this has nice levels of carbonation. It's pleasantly creamy and soft, with said carbonation making it dry and (fairly) easygoing. Post-swallow, a moderate amount of residual sugar remains on the palate. The roundness doesn't befit a wild ale, but it suits the sweet qualities nicely.

Eh, it's alright. It's not that it's a bad or flawed beer, it's that it lacks the qualities that would have made it great - like, I dunno, palpable brett characteristics. I wouldn't buy it again given the price point.

2.92/5: Looks like it's just an E Star

Pale amber with speckly trails. 3.75
Some dough and flower then barn and hay. 3.75
Rusk, apple, autumn leaf, a hit of barnyard and a chalky end. 3.75
Almost end, round, chewy. 3.75

Where’s the funk? Too sweet and round - “wild” rather than lambic doesn’t tell me much about how this was designed. Whatever Brett is there needs a year to work. 3.75

Strong orange color profile giving up approximately half inch of off white head. Impressive. Aroma wasn't funk-e. A little bit of toasted pale malt, off fruit.

Brett grist, dryness, more pale malt, citrus mouthfeel. Mimosa time. A little bit of everything from hops, bitterness, citrus, tartness, sourness, sweetness, delivered by a pale ale with ample bitterness and malt.
