1.5 L b
bottle provided by Mrkennedy. Much thanks for this rarity

A-- Dark ruby color, quite murky looking but with some nice highlights. Massive head. Light brown head, 2-3 fingers, great retention and good lacing.

S-- Lots of orange peel, caramel, bread, stone fruits, and dry grapefruit and pine. Hops have held up very well for a 2009 beer. Bold, forward nose.

T-- More caramel in the taste but pretty much see the above for tasting notes. Reminded me of double bastard but better done. Went in and out from sweetness to dryness. Lots of citrus and pine notes.

M-- Medium bodied. Lighter carbonation. Hops have held up well in this. Quite bitter in the palate. Solid stuff.

O-- Just need a trip to Alpine and toronado and the day is complete. Solid as heck beer.

Thanks for sharing, Tim.

Pours amber in color with a tall white head. A strong hoppiness to the aroma which is quite heavy on the herbal and pine qualities. Nice citrus peel notes to it as well. Though the hops are the dominant characteristic, plenty of toffee and caramel maltiness. The flavor has a good caramel sweetness to it, but still features a lot of piney bitterness. Some herbal hop notes along with citrus/grapefruit peel, which also add to the bitterness.

Magnum shared by Tim at Kill the Cellar Day, thanks!

A: Red tinged orange with an inch of off-white froth.

S: Cardboard oxidation, caramel, earth, light citrus, and evident booze. Age hasn't been kind to this beer as it's pretty oxidized.

T: Earth meets grapefruit, cardboard, bread, caramel, and moderate bitterness. The beer is slightly astringent and pretty boozy.

M: Medium body with lower high carbonation.

Overall: Really oxidized. Not very good at this point.

Magnum, caged and corked bottle 23 of 1200 or something like that.

Pours a deep amber brown with about 2" of thick fluffy off white head that retained the entire way. Smells of sweet malt, slight hop presence and an almost toasted bread note. Taste is very complex, toasted malt, slightly bitter at some points a grape like tannin property is there. Very big mouthfeel thick almost syrupy but is in check with the rest of the brew. Drinks well, definite sipper here. Very interesting, thanks to Sammy for sharing this rarity.

Very different beer, from private purchase group. Bubby four-inch head that maintained itself(well most of it did), even from people who shared it and are consistent pourers. Amber coloured body Big thick lace followed. Roasty aromas. The taste is of citrus hops and of roast. Very complex, one sip is toast, one is bitter. Very hard to take in more than sips.

Sammy's bottle. This one is massive, not sure what size the bottle is. Pours a ruby brown colour with massive head. This seriously is close to the biggest head from a careful pour I've ever seen. Thick pillowly head with tons of lacing down the glass. Even though this is from 2009, hops are still there in the nose. Quite malty and boozy as well. Flavur nicely melds the hops with the malt, seems pretty close to a barleywine. Big carbonation level suits this beer nicely.

This is quite an interesting brew that ive been saving up for the right moment and thought tonight was the night,it pours a dark murky golden colour with beautiful carbonation that leaves a frothy two finger head and heaps of lacing, the aroma is very hoppy with a subtle caramel, liquorice, malty, boozy background,it has a nice full lucious mouthfeel with hints of piney hops and caramel malts mixed with aniseed and suprisingly the alcohol is well hidden, quite an interesting brew i was told its half an IPA and half a Barley Wine and to be honest i find it more to be like stated an American Strong Ale and a nice one at that cheers.

A: Dark brownish amber with a small off-white head.

S: The smell is dominated by a rather one-sided hop profile of grapefruits accompanied by caramel malts, some bready notes and gentle spices.

T: Sweet caramel, malts and grapefruits in the mouth. Notes of lemon peel and bread. The finish is big and long with a refreshing bitterness, piny hops, resins, white pepper and well integrated alcohol. Very balanced.

M: Medium body with well suited carbonation.

D: This is a really balanced beer. Good complexity, although the hop profile is slightly one-sided in the smell. Well integrated alcohol. Would definitely have it again.

RBSG09 bottle at the grand tasting. Pours a deep clear copper color with a tan head. Smells pretty much just like oranges. Not much else. Tastes like chewing on orange peels. Mikkeller has gone off the deep end with this one. I think Billy Mays sold this as a wood polish product...
