I recently received this in a trade from crosamich and decided to open it up.

It pours a deep black color with absolutely no chance of light getting through. It also pours with about a finger size foam which dissipates after a minute or two. The aroma that can be picked up off this is a spicy chili, smooth scotch, dark roasted coffee, and a slight vanilla. When it comes to taste I was pleasantly surprised, it had some spicy wood notes from the barrel, rich dark, roasted, coffee, some dark chocolate, and slight vanilla. The coffee and spicy wood notes linger on the tongue for a couple minutes after each sip. The mouthfeel was great, it coated the tongue and had a rich smoothness as it went down. Overall, I am really impressed with this beer; nothing was too overpowering and everything went together nicely. I am really looking forward to the Bourbon and Islay, and also the HR Fredericksen/Weasel Blend. This beer was very well done.

Aged 3.5 months in highland barrels. Served in a tulip.

Pours a little thin, but opaque and black in color. One finger of cinnamon stick colored bubbles recedes slowly.

High booze aroma. Lots of vanilla, ethanol, mill chocolate. Almost bourbony. Not much coffee.

Better here. Great integration -- the highland scotch has a nice sweet caramel note that blends well with the coffee. Vanilla, toffee, alcohol, green oak.

Very low carbonation, just a soft tingle. Medium light body a little watery. Big bitterness at the swallow.

I prefer the islay edition -- think it works better with the coffee flavors, and this is a little too boozy.

Pours a deep, dark brown, almost black. Head is bubbly, ochre colour but quite pale, almost beige. Doesn't hang around in any serious way. Lace is good, not great. Overall though, pretty damn good.

Smells very pleasant. Slightly funky, with lots of roast behind it. Quite a nutty character, with caramel toffee, peanuts and a good belt of barnyard underlying the roastiness. Pleasant aroma.

Taste is rich and nutty mostly, lots of roast to it and quite spicy as well. Yeah, starts off quite sweet with caramel nuttiness and toffee as well. Develops roasty espresso notes heading towards a pretty damn smooth finish. Slight booziness, but it's all well-balanced with a quite spicy character coming through late, and it's quite well meshed in with the rest of the flavours. Nice, balanced, good and impressive stout.

Full, but smooth. Maybe gets a bit hot on the back, but otherwise goes down very nicely.

Nice stout - really rather mellow for how big it is, with nice roasty and spicy notes to most of it. Booze is there, but doesn't overpower any part of it. Very nice.

Been hanging on to this one for a while and should have got to it sooner. Bottled 09/03/09, bb 09/03/12, oops!

Appearance. Pours a thick dark brown, zero head or signs of carbonation. Crap.

Smell. Woody whisky, smooth but strong. Traces of chocolate and coffee, but mainly that decent smelling whiskey.

Taste. Woody, peaty and a bit smokey whiskey, some light coffee and roasted malt with a big, unsweetened bitter chocolate finish. Interesting.

Mouthfeel. Full body with very low carbonation. Happy there is some carbonation left, there's nothing I hate more than a flat beer.

Overall. I tried to be generous here considering I'm a year over the BB date, but I don't think this beer was much better a year ago. Just too much whiskey, not enough beer.

Thanks to mrmiles for sharing this one at NoSignsOfPain's birthday bottleshare hosted by mrbubbler.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, wood, smoke, peat, and scotch. Taste is the same with a woody aftertaste. There is a medium roasty bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that has a nice barrel aged presence in the aroma and taste.

Appearance: Beer Geek Brunch Weasel (Highland Edition) pours an ink black, utterly opaque, with perhaps the tiniest imaginable hint of mahogany. The little head has a boysenberry shade, and that dissipates quickly, leaving behind just a ring with no lacing.

Smell: The beer smells of whiskey and booze, lots coffee and a solid load of chocolate, dark fruits, and a bit of vanilla.

Taste: Loads of whiskey and booze, as in the nose, but the flavour is sweet too. The chocolate is very strong.

Mouthfeel: Highland Edition feels surprisingly light given the boldness of the ingredients. I'd say this is a medium body, and the carbonation is on a medium level too.

Overall: The label on the bottle says "Oatmeal Stout", but I agree with the listing here that the beer is in fact an imperial stout. It may be an imperial oatmeal stout, if you insist, since the beer does feel big and bold, but there's the distinct sweetness of an oatmeal stout too. Aside from the nomenclature, I love how bold the whiskey is in this beer. I'm reminded of the boldness of the bourbon in Driftwood's Singularity, for instance. The flavours here are big and blunt, just like Mikkeller, and just how I like beer.

Pours a lovely deep dark black-brown colour with a fine, but filmy head of crema-coloured foam. Very pleasant static carbonation to it, forming as rivulets up the side of the glass as it's tilted. Overall, it's a really lovely look. Classic Impy stout look.

Nose is a little sharper than expected, with a banana leaf crispness, and perhaps just a touch of oxidation. It's a little disappointing, but this is several years old. There's a touch of whisky to it, giving it a hazy, slightly smoky character, but it's subdued and in some ways restrained from the true characters of the beer.

Taste is empty, and, I'm afraid exceptionally oxidised, giving a wet cardboard flatness. There's still the roasted stoutiness, but everything is squished and missing its depth and complexity. There is again a hint of whisky, but it's subtle, subdued and pushed out of the main even. Feel has held up well, with a lovely smoothness, and a clear balance on the palate. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a lot to work with.

If you have a bottle of this left, I hope it's survived better than this one. If not, drink it soon, because it's not getting any better. It's still a good beer from a good series. I just wish I'd drunk my bottle earlier.

Batch 415
Brewed 090309
50 cl bottle split two ways poured into a bailey's taproom tulip.

A- pours jet black with a very minimal coffee and cream head that recieded to a light ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.

S- alcohol, smoke, dark fruit, vanilla and, surprisingly, coffee, I would have assumed the coffee would have faded by now.

T- booze, black coffee, bakers chocolate, barrel, this beer is still quite hot.

M- medium mouthfeel, light carbonation. Smooth and creamy. Nice.

O- at a little over two years old this beer is drinking well, although not, I suspect, at peak. Still a little boozy and hot but tasty all the same.

Bottle courtesy of bosse shared by me at the Mikkeller Sour Bitch release.

A - pours jet black with a tiny smattering of head

S - Sort of a weird muted nose. Some coffee, as well as some sherry notes and smoke. A hint of iodine before it dissipated quickly

T - Tastes much much better than the smell. Sort of strange at first with some possible oxidation. Great rich cherry coffee and a big scotch backing that's not overpowering. Tons of fruit, smoke and coffee. Gets better with every sip to the point that I just finished the last like 6 oz. myself. Really enjoyed this brew

M - Bit thin, but appropriate giving the -bal aging. Not hot at all.

O - Very strange beer, but it's pretty fantastic after a few sips. Well worth trying and possibly the best variation of any of the geek beers I've had.

Inky black colour with a small but relatively persistent tan head. No lacing.

Sharply alcoholic with plenty of sweet malt. Lots of roast and smooth coffee. Somewhat earthy but again lots of alcohol.

Big alcoholic stout, some roast and phenolic character are present along with plenty of sweetness. This is certainly a big stout and the coffee flavour adds depth but the phenolic takes away a little bit here.

Medium-full body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A solid stout but not spectacular. The phenolic is inappropriate and the alcohol is just a touch too strong.

Brewed March '09, Reviewed Dec '11.
Pours syrup-like pitch black with no head until encouraged (eg a 20cm high pour), at which point a thin layer of dark, dark tan is noticeable.
Nose shows coffee liqueur, musty notes, chocolate truffles, soft whisky notes and lots of vanilla essence. Pretty interesting. After a while the vanilla is the real dominant aroma. Seems to only improve as time wears on.
Flavours are just as intense, lots of booze, whisky, roasted malt and chocolate syrup. Not as much coffee as I expected but definitely noticeable. Unfortunately the booze is pretty obvious and a little harsh.
Very syrupy body, almost no carbonation; could use more.
Overall a bit harsh and full-on but otherwise quite an experience.

500ml bottle into a tulip glass. Big huge thanks to Finewinemike for this beer.

Batch 415

Bottled 090309

Best by 090312

A- Pours solid black with 1 finger of fluffy light brown head that doesn't stick around. Splotchy lacing with some really nice alcohol feet.

S- Strong burnt coffee up front that is quickly followed by an intense whiskey aroma and musty wood that gives off an ashtray/cigarette's in water kind of note. Definitely some smoke/ peat and a good amount of alcohol in the background.

T- Was a little skeptical by the aroma but the taste is very impressive. The regular Brunch Weasel comes through up front with strong artisan coffee, roastiness, smoke, peat and creamy bittersweet chocolate. But it gets way more complex once the whiskey shows up with nice caramel, musty oak, and a nice booziness that is very tolerable and fills out the body.

M- Full bodied that's cloying and sticky with moderate carbonation and a nice bitter mouth coating finish.
