One badass beer.

Appearance: Nice, a bit hazy amber in colour with a yellowish, thick head that lasted very long.

Aroma: Most double IPA's I've tasted had a very sweet or alcohol aroma, but not this one. Amazing hoppy, citrusy aroma from the bottle and even better from the glass. Very intense.

Taste: Extreme hoppy bitterness, little bit of caramel, resin and earthy flavours. Tons of citrus. No alcohol aftertaste, just how I like it.

Mouthfeel: soft carbonation, medium to high bodied.

Overall: Never have I tasted an IIPA so amazingly good. Best IIPA I've ever had and probably one of the best beers I've had so far.

Enjoyed from a teku glass.

Mikkeller 1000 IBU

Appearance: Caramel, medium head, and great lacing.

Smell: HOPS! and spices.

Taste: Malty hop goodness!

Mouthfeel: Rich and smooth

This is a MUST try if you like IPAs. It is hopilicious and beautifully balanced. It has this great lingering bitterness.

II had this on tap at Barley's in Greenville and decided I needed to make my first review.

It pours out a deep bronze with a bit of a copper tint around the edges. Decent carb and a 1" bleach white head with little lace.

The smell is very citrusy with a hint of pine and lemon zest.

The taste is overwhelmingly bruising bitter. The hops take over with a dryness that lingers well after. There are some floral notes, but they quickly are subdued by the citrus and piney HUGE hop presence. It is very acidic and to me, a massive hophead, pleasing. The malt used is very hard to detect, but I'd imagine a bit of maris otter, honey and acidulated resin as the base of this.

The mouthfeel is difficult to determine with the lingering bitterness, but I suspect this beer to have a lot of unfermented residual sugar that makes the hop stick to your palate long after the beer is gone.

Overall, this is an amazing DIPA second only to Hopslam in my opinion, solely because it ruined my Sculpin that I had immediately after. I literally tasted it for a solid 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant. Try this beer on tap, I'd imagine it would be fresher- rinse your mouth out after.

6721011 (stamped on the back of the bottle; bottling date?)

A- Hazy burnt toffee colored pour. Three finger soapy light tan head. Slowly recedes to finger width cap that just clings to the glass.

S- Bitter floral right off the bat. Resinous pine, juicy grapefruit, mandarin. Slight buttery note. Slight cat urine hiding in the back. Sweet malt backing and nice roundness.

T- Wow... Pure hop kick. Just bitter, no floral pine or fruit. Just straight bitter. Smooth malt sweetness just before the dry bitter onslaught commences.

M- Medium bodied, chewy at first, quickly jumps into overdrive and dries your mouth out like sand paper.

O- Bitter and glorious, dry and wonderful. Just hoppy bliss. Not nearly as sweet as I intended it would have to be.

12.7 oz green bottle, corked, caged, and covered in paper. Very nice packaging.

Served very lightly chilled (15 min in fridge). It pours into my American pint glass a thick brownish orange/red with an abundance of hop bits floating around. I alwasy love the appearence of the unfiltered DIPAs. THe head is huge, off-white, and foamy. It sticks for a long time and slowly receds with some very nice lacing.

The smell is really good, I'm sure if it were colder it would be less fragrant but this is exquisite. Of course there is some simcoe in there which I love. It is piney, perfumey, citrusy, and intensely concentrated. It is a pure hop aroma.

This beer is dynamite on the taste buds, it is about as bitter as you can get with a decent malt backing. The simcoe stars again here. I really enjoyed Mikkeller's single hop simcoe and Weyerbachers Unfiltered Double Simcoe, but this one takes the cake. If you love this hop variety you will love this beer. The hop flavor coats the mouth like a resin. The hops are just so over the top but yet tamed by the thin but sweet maltiness. It is like drinking Simcoe juice.

If you like the bitter feeling pounding in your mouth this one is for you. To me it is extremely drinkable both for the alcohol percentage (which has no presence in the mouth) and the style in general. I am a sucker for the Simcoe.

This beer has a gimmicky cloak, yes it is 1000 ibus theoretically, but it is also a fantastic take on the DIPA. The brewer specifically stated that it was meant to show how an extreme beer can be a drinkable and enjoyable one. It is too bad it is so expensive and rare, otherwise it would easily be a go to DIPA along with Pliny and Hopslam.

Had this on tap in Copenhagen, which I liked slightly better. However, this review is from the bottle.

A: Tawny light brown with golden highlights. rocky off white head sits atop and dissapates to a small 1 cm collar.

S: Wonderful tropical fruit aromas: Pinapple, mango, passionfruit hit the nose up front, some traditional bready malt notes poke trhough as it warms. Some cheesy hops and west coast hops are present as well. Nelson, Simcoe, cascade are noted. The aroma stays up front like a persistent perfume...IT WILL NOT PASS!!! =)

T: Many of the same notes from the aroma. Passionfruit, pinapple, grapefruit...Nelson and Simcoe hops. Marris malts? Some bread notes. Well balanced malt and hop profiles...but this is a hop bomb! Bitterness does well to work with the malt.

M: Not astringent at all..well executed with the alcohol as it is not overpowering with the hops, no fusels noted. Well cabonated, medium mouthfeel
O: This is a great hop bomb...is it to style DIPA? Maybe not, but who cares! The upfront aroma and late boil hops of a Bell's Two hearted with the back of the mouth cheese and fruit bitterness of a Surly Furious! For those all about hop bombs...don't miss this well executed beer!
