750 ml C&C bottle with gold foil into snifter, 2010 bottle(I think). Pours pitch black color with an impressive 3 finger dense tan head with insane retention that reduces to a nice cap that lasts forever. Tons of nice soapy lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of huge orange, grapefruit, pine, floral, and spicy hops; with some roasted malt, caramel, light fruits, chocolate, and apple. Super hoppy aromas here, not what I was expecting at all. Taste of huge dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, smoke, coffee, molasses, citrus, pine, and spiciness. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of big dark chocolate, caramel, smoke, and coffee on the finish for a bit. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and lush mouthfeel. Alcohol is pretty much invisible, hardly any warming after the finish. Overall this is an interesting and tasty Baltic porter with huge robust flavor and easy drinking.

Thanks to my brother for sharing this bottle with me.

The beer pours a hazy brown color with a tan head. The aroma is pretty good. I get a lot of roasted malt and chocolate, but there is something hidden in the aroma that hits me a little bit wrong. Still, the overall aroma is very nice but not as good as it could be.

The flavor is classic porter. I get a lot of chocolate and roasted malt. Even with all of the malt, the beer is very dry and a little bit chalky tasting. I don't get any spices in the flavor, but the flavors I do get are nice and make this a good beer.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Another strong effort from Mikkeller. Glad I got to try this one.

A: Pours a nearly pitch black color. A two finger tan head forms with excellent retention. Sticky, spiderweb looking lace crawls along the glass.
S: Light chocolate, coffee, and roast. Though a lot of soapy hops that detracts for me.
T: More roasted than the nose, and the soapy characteristic is almost gone. Chocolate, and espresso. Some sweetness as well. A lingering bitterness.
M/D: A medium body. A little bit chalky, and a little thin. Easy to drink. A big beer, but it goes down really easy. A nice sipper.

A good beer. A bigger body would do a world of difference for me though. It just seems to thin. Regardless, something I enjoy. Worth picking up if you can find it.

750ml bottle on sale for $10.50 dark black color with an impressive head. Smells odd, dough-like yeast. Taste us a rich porter but something else is creeping in, almost spicy. I wonder what ingredients were used. This is much better than the chipotle porter.

Got this beauty on-tap @ The Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY.

Pour is a deep, dark, chocolate brown/black. Nice foam; not to little, not too much. It's a beautiful site. The anticipation is mounting.

It smells fantastic. Matly, earthy, sweet, smokey, rich, and intense. It's everything you could want from a porter/stout. The anticipation is unbareable. Time for a taste.

Mmmmm. Tastey. Thick and sweet. Huge malt flavor, but nothing overwhelming. It's a fantastic balance.

My apologies for not being descriptive enough, but this beer is phenomenal. One taste and you will understand that it needs no introduction.

Sip and enjoy.

Enjoyed this 750ml bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pours a dark almost pitch black hue with a hint of amber highlights. Very thin ½-finger tan head that quickly dissipates and leaves a wispy lace.

S: Strong, syrupy, malty, sweet aroma fills the nostril. Hints of coffee and dark fruits.

T: Dark rich ale with a generous sweetness with a roasted malt bitterness. Mild chocolate and coffee overtones, with some dark fruits mixed in.

M: Very strong and boozy. Heavy body and minimal carbonation

O: I wasn’t overly impressed with this beer – probably cause I have come to expect more out of Mikkeller since most of their beers are awesome. It was a little to syrupy for me without enough carbonation.

A serious thick mocha head on this one. It hangs out and makes for a lovely looking pour.

Nose is fairly light, sweet and smokey malt, some chocolate and caramel and bright hops. Turns out the flavor is stronger, especially on the roasted side. Really nice mix of sweet creamy malt and light spices. Lingering finish with roasted bitterness. Very drinkable.

I don't think I've had a holiday beer before that's slotted so well in the porter style. This one is good.

A - Dark brown-black with a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate colored head. Fades fairly slowly.

S - Roasted chocolate and caramel malts, roasted coffee, black licorice, molasses, vanilla, and a bit of booze.

T - Dark chocolate and a bit of caramel malts, a hint of dark fruit, some roasted coffee, some earthy and citrus hops, candi sugars, black licorice, vanilla, a bit of smoke, and a bit of booze.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a sweet, roasted, and warming finish.

D - Nicely balanced Baltic Porter. Good body and mouthfeel.

Poured from a synthetic corked and caged 750ml bottle into two St. Bernardus goblets. Thanks to HollyAnn for the assist!

Back label code: 7501008

A: Pours jet black with possibly the lovliest looking layer of dense, mocha-colored meringue that I've ever seen on a beer. It tops out at about 2-3 fingers before slowly melting down to a 1/4 finger that manages to stick around 'till the end and leaves lacey rings all the way down the inside of the glass.

S: Big nose full of smoke. Smoked malt and campfire smoke. Fire roasted peppers. Big, piney hops and a hint of anise with bitter dark chocolate and espresso.

T: Exactly as above. Cherry wood smoked malt, peppers, and campfire become stronger as it does an excellent fudge flavor.

M: Oddly enough, I felt that this actually got slightly thinner as it came up to temp. Loads of dry and smoky malt, bitter oily hops, and astringent espresso. Finishes spicy and tingly.

D: Well, Mikkeller crushes another porter. Texas Ranger whetted my appetite for spicy and peppery porters and this was exactly what I was looking for on this cold and slightly snowy early winter Chicago day.

I'm thinkin this is the right beer. My bottle says "To" on the first line, "From", on the second line, and "via Mikkeller" on the third line. Pours a thick black color with an extremely large mocha-colored head that goes down slowly. Scent is a nice combo of winter spices and dark chocolate. Nice coffee aromas as well. Some ginger and cinnamon come through nicely as this beer warms up. Just a bit of hop character. Taste is initially roasted coffee with some bitter hop flavors. Then I get nutty, dark chocolate flavors with burnt tobacco as well. Very roasty and a bit bitter, but not overly bitter. Definite ginger. Nice, espresso-like finish with a somewhat warming sensation. Mouthfeel is smooth, velvety, creamy. Chewy finish. Drinkability is fairly high. This is a nice winter/holiday beer that just enhances as it warms up a bit. Very tasty.

I don't think this is actually retired. they must have brewed it again this year cuz my beer store gave them out to VIP customers.

anyway, it poured a beautiful black with a three finger head that fades slowly and leaves ok lacing.

The aroma is roasty with dark chocolate notes and hints of vanilla.

I'm disappointed there is not spice flavors evident when the bottle says it is a spiced ale. It is definitely like a porter with chocolate notes. A roasty porter with hints of coffee and vanilla. Simple but balanced and good.

Porter mouthfeel is good, smooth, and a little bitter bite.

Overall a good roasty porter.

Enjoyed on tap at the outstanding Blind Pig in Champaign. Two lush mocha fingers of froth top a black body with black cherry trim; very good duration and lacing. Nice, roasted malt nose; smoky, with plenty of caramel, chocolate, coffee, and cherry.

Lovely taste; loads of chocolate and coffee malt, ample fruit, especially cherry. It's sweet and smoky all in one. Plenty of espresso flavor in the second half, and a bit of tobacco. Delicious. Good texture, but a little thin as it warms. Still, a good mouthfeel--smooth, a little hop grit, and easy on the palate.

This is the first offering I've had from Mikkeller, and I am certainly impressed. It won't be the last from this Danish brewery that I enjoy. This porter is excellent, smooth, robust in flavor, and very accessible.
