Heavily laden with floating yeast sediments. Fruity aromas of mandarin oranges, green apples, white grape juice, unripe bananas, along with bubblegum notes. Light clove and Belgian yeast. Nice complexity. I was a little worried it would be too hoppy, but taste is typical of a tripel, without quite the intensity from the yeast. However, it is very well-balanced, offering a bit of sweetness upfront and finishing moderately dry, with a good (perhaps a bit too much) amount of heat from the alcohol on the end as well.

this is great beer, one of the few mikkeller brews I have had that is made pretty much to style, without any crazy ingredients or processes at work. its nice to know its possible, even though I obviously enjoy the experimentation. this was part of the advent calendar box, which I am very pleased to have purchased. hazy golden big heady beer, looks great in the glass, very authentic. the head is thick too, holds up well, like stiffly beaten egg whites. smells and tastes the part too, very Belgian, this yeast is fermented warm and allowed to absolutely go crazy. I get orange peel, banana, bubblegum, coriander seed, lemon, and oatmeal all at once. its grain heavy but yeast driven. wheat and likely some oats too, it has that taste and feel to it. boldly flavored beer. this yeast is cool, a mix it seems, of elements from the fruity trappist varietals and the spicy clovey high gravity newer wave strains. its awesome. carbonated expressively, and with quite a full body. its a little sweeter than I could drink a ton of, but its real tasty and well done. nice to see mikkeller tackle a classic style like this with such grace!

A 330ml bottle with a BB of June 2014. Purchased some time ago from a webshop and stored in my garage. The ingredients include orange peel and coriander, which I would usually associate with witbier, but then Mikkeller never follow the rules. The label image of a cat leaping at a monk on a Vespa belongs in the realm of the truly bizarre...

Poured into a Delirium chalice. Bottle conditioned. A rich, hazy amber hue with chunky floating sediment and good carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam with excellent stability; it lasts for ages before subsiding to a thick surface layer. Aroma of sweet, fruity yeast esters with hints of banana, clove, sugar, mild bubblegum, spice, faint orange peel, a touch of earthy coriander and stewed hops. A warm, solventy whiff of booze in the background. Intriguingly complex.

Tastes of fruity yeast esters with a hint of spice and a dry finish. Notes of banana, clove, mild orange peel, faint bubblegum, dry coriander, earthy yeast and stewed hops. Well-attenuated, yet slightly sweet. A touch of hot, solventy booze in the background, followed by a restrained and faintly herbal bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and tingly, with good body but somewhat lacklustre carbonation. Highly astringent - the alcohol dries the palate. Aftertaste of earthy yeast, fruitiness and bitter stewed hops.

Another class effort from Mikkeller - not quite to style but well assembled. Looks good, in spite of the sediment, while the aroma and flavour have a satisfyingly rounded complexity. Quite boozy but this doesn't detract from the experience. The body is decent, though more effervescent carbonation would be nice. Pretty close to a genuine tripel, just a shade more fruity/spicy. A pleasant sipper - worth sampling if you come across it.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some alight lacing. Aroma of rustic malt with lots of residual sugar and some light spicy notes. Taste is also dominated by some light spicy yeast notes with some rustic malt and quite a lot of residual sugars. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Coriander is hard to distinguish and a bit too sweet for the style with limited ester.

On Tap at Blue Dog

A- The liquid resembles a bright golden color with some yellow within. This one is alive as about 3 fingers of dense white foam steadily rose. Excellent lacing, thick and coating.

S- I was kind of dissapointed in the smell on first sniffs as I got a hay/barnyard scent which was one sided. This opened up quickly though, with a bunch of fruits with apples up front. A good amount of spices with cloves centerstage. Some belgian yeast rounds this out.

T- Mikkeller triple is a nice mix of light spice and fruit with Belgian yeast in between. Orange pops out with some papaya and really shines with apples and pears coming through. Getting some trace alcohol as well. Some hops in here but are not up front. A nice bready background from the belgian yeast

M- The feel gets better with some warmth but as is, this is creamy and refreshing. The alcohol is barely noticable, well hidden. This one glides down with no distractions. A nice spicy aftertaste. Just dont drink it too cold.

D- My only regret is that drank it too quickly. Put off by the odor at first I was very surprised at the outcome. Very refreshing and tasty. It's high in alcohol but what the hell.

Usually Mikkeller beer are huge misses with me, I only have seemed to love the almighty weasel. Now with the Belgian triple, I have found solace in the fact that Mikkeller can brew a lighter styled beer and hit it out of the park, besides all those crazy big ass dark beers he is always coming up with.

Cloudy amber-golden colour with a creamy and rocky light tan head.

Plenty of citrus and clove on the nose but unfortunately there is a hefty dose of acetaldehyde as well which dominates. Okay but not great.

As in the aroma there is a fair bit of green apple here. I don't mind the other fruit and clove flavours here but the green apple is overly dominant and covers up the slightly sweet malt character.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A disappointing Tripel. Mikkeller can be hit and miss sometimes and this is one of those misses. The fermentation flaw is quite clear and really should have been picked up in QA.

Appearance - A wheaty, citrus color that is reminiscent of watching a golden-amber sunrise. A rich and spritzy head with great lacing to the glass.

Smell - Belgian funk with bing cherry, pineapple, mango, and banana. There are a lot of different fruit notes working together to create this unique smell.

Taste - A strict alcohol burn with consistent banana notes and slices of pineapple. Light notes of cherry also traverse from the smell to the taste. Obvious notes of Belgian yeast and light clove spice are evident, though the spice is very faint.

Mouthfeel and Drinkability - Well balanced and medium bodied with a small scotch-like mouthburning bite to it. Grainy and wheaty with fruity ethanol in the aftertaste.

I had this on-tap at the Mikkeller bar in Copenhagen. Served in a tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden color with a half finger of fluffy white head that fades to a thin layer on top of the pour.

Smell: Some Belgian yeast spice with fruit, citrus, and sweet malt notes.

Taste: A lot like the smell. The yeast spice and the fruity notes are a nice combination that carries through to the finish. I'm getting some hop bitterness. Sweet but not overly so.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with sharp carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: I thought this was a nice tripel. The hops seemed to be at just the right level. I enjoyed the fruit notes as well.

330ml bottle. Strange bit of cat-fumigating imagery on the label.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, tarnished orange hue, with two fingers of puffy, tight, melted marshmallow off-white head, which leaves a perfectly consistent array of bicycle chain lace around the glass as it lazily sinks away.

It smells predominantly of brewers' yeast, booze-soaked tropical fruit, herbal spices, and a sugary, grainy malt. The taste is more distinct pineapple, orange, and increasing pungent apple fruitiness, spicy, midlly caramelized grain, with an overarching stiff mixed drink alcohol warming - dull, but hard to shake.

The carbonation is quite sedate, no real fuss made, the body a solid medium weight, and pleasantly smooth. It finishes off-dry, a blend of sweet spicy grain, muddled fruit, and politely lurking booze.

A decent enough tripel, lots of multifaceted flavours flitting about somewhat randomly at first, then coming together nicely. The alcohol threatens low-key anarchy at times, but doesn't really follow through, leaving you to bear the behind the scenes brunt of its affection upon completion of the bottle - the way it should be!

Cloudy but bright orange to peach colour with a large foamy head that holds well.

Strong smelling on the nose and with a lot of yeast followed by a nice, warming alcohol smell. There is some spice as well and a mild sweetness with some orange zest too.

Mildly sour to begin with and with some orange zest and touches of citrus. There is a strong alcohol flavour midway through and plenty of spice.

Medium and smooth with plenty of carbonation and a huge, warming alcohol kick to it.

A nice beer but not quite as complex or flavoursome as I was expecting. There is a nice, warming alcohol feel to it and some light orange zest notes but there isn't too much else going on here.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 21/2/12

A murky peachy orange with a large three finger off white head that quickly falls to a pinkies width that hangs around for a while leaving a couple partial rings of lace.

S some yeast and brewers candy with some candied pineapple, booze, and a little apple and pear. I pick up on the sweet orange but only after reading it on the bottle

T a little cereal and spices on top of what I smell, a decent example of the style, a little sweet but no problems really

M medium bodied with good carbonation just a little heat to complain about

O a good triple but not outstanding, strange how I can only feel the booze not taste or smell it

I'd drink this again but I'm going to be broke for a while with this massive Mikkeller release here in Alberta, well with LFDM on the shelf for twice the size for a extra 1.50$ perhaps a hard sell

A - Golden orange body with a soft white head and webs of sticky lacing.

S - Typical belgian yeast aroma, raisin bread, pepper and spice.

T - Brown sugar, pear, apple, orange peel, biscuit and spice. Slightly hot.

M - Medium body and carbonation levels.

O - Not the most complex tripel but an enjoyable belgian treat. Another tick for Mikkeller.

A: Pours a glowing gold with a tight, compact white head. Little streams of effervescence are very noticeable in the glass.

S: Aromas of pear, caramel, apple, and grassy, spicy hops are evident one the nose. This smells nice, but I would have liked to see a more pronounced hop presence.

T: Notes of lemon, orange zest, spiced pear, green apple, and caramel are balanced by grassy, herbal hops and peppery yeast. The finish is mostly fruity with apple, pear, and caramel notes.

M: Medium to full bodied, relatively dry, and smooth. Carbonation is active, yet expressive. Alcohol presence is nicely restrained.

O: This is an excellent tripel and was very drinkable on-tap. I would have liked to see a little more hop presence in the finish, but overall this was a very good experience. Worth a try if you can find it.

Drank on tap at Sail and Anchor, Fremantle.

A - Pours a nice Golden Straw colour with a one fingered head trhyat retains well.

S - A little hoppy with some sweetness.

T - A little sour on the start, before the fruity esters kick in. Nice lemon rind notes backed up by some decent bready yeast.

M - A little sticky in the mouthfeel, medium body and carbonation.

O - A very drinkable Tripel without the complexity of a Westmalle.

The beer pours a golden-orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of biscuit malt, as well as some Belgian yeast and some spice notes such as pepper and coriander.

The flavor is more complex. I get a lot of orange citrus notes, but the Belgian yeast and biscuit malt are also present. The Belgian candy sugar is also in the flavor, as are some spices and a little bit of alcohol.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

I am assuming this is the collab beer with stone and alesmith. Had on draft at the refuge in san carlos. Pours a typical belgian golden sunset orange, with good looking carbonation and a finger of quickly disappearing head that leaves sticky webs of lacing. The nose is typical belgian yeast phenols, an odd soapy aroma (i wont discount that maybe the glass had some residue) along with some citrus shadings. The mouth brought rich bready malts, lemon and orange zest along with baking spice yeast notes - my problem was the beer clearly showed its abv and finished a bit astrigent and hot. Odd choice from three beer makers who really arent known for this particular style.

Labelled "Trippel" in Brasserie 4:20, Rome, Italy. I purchased it there at a price of 4.5 euro per 25cl. The barmaid served it into generic stemware from the draught. Reviewed from notes.

A: One finger head of soft white but limited cream. Fair thickness and good retention. Semitransparent copper-gold colour.

Sm: Unexpected lambic-esque souring hops alongside fruit ester hops. A moderate strength scent.

T: Light souring hops are present on the climax. Pleasant fruit ester hops rest atop a solid barley foundation. Fairly simple by Mikkeller standards, but a good build overall. Balanced. Somewhat refreshing - which I'm not used to in a tripel.

Mf: Smooth and wet. A touch too thick. Complements the flavour of the body.

Dr: Very drinkable. Pretty pricey by Italian standards. For mikkeller, me favourite brewery in the world, it's rather generic. I won't have it again.

This 33 cl Mikkeller was intended for distribution only in Italy. I think some got out by mistake in a shipping error, but the majority is still on the boot.

The body is a dark and cloudy strawberry blond with a fluffy two finger off-white head. The bubbles are very fine and diminish to globby lacing.

The smell is herbal with notes of licorice and hints of orange zest. The yeast smell is intoxicating.

The first sip gives a soft licorice mixed with a sweetness no doubt imparted by the candy sugar listed as an ingredient. Once the beer warms and some of the suspended carbonation is spent, notes of horse blanket, hay and medicinal phenols make for a complex tasting experience. The candy sugar sweetness peaks through and plays with a soft tannin/barnyard mellowness. The aftertaste hangs around for ages. The alcohol is really well covered and appears only fumingly upon reverse gesticulation.

The carbonation is medium and is appropriate for the style.

I love the idea of a "gypsy brewer." I think this man is some sort of beer savant.
