Deep black pour with a thin beige head on it. Aroma hit the bitter ashy, roasted coffee notes, but also dropped that tequila agave edge on it. Wood notes nicely done.

Good mix of chocolate malt, roasted chocolate malt and mild tequila heat. Very interesting, unique, and best of all, good.

Yes these are expensive, but they're a great and unique barrel aged stout that imparts a nice amount of tequila sweetness on top of the bitter ashy notes. Well done.

Dark fluffy head, pitch black.

Nose muted, little peppery tequila, vegetal, faint dark chocolate and caramel, little bitter hop.

Taste big tequila, overpowers the beer, peppery, vegetal green pepper, little chocolate and roast, earthy hop, little metallic.

Mouth is med bod, creamy fluffy carb.

i had this side by side with the red wine edition, and this was the clear loser. for me, the tequila was almost too intense, having taken over the beer to the point where coffee and vanilla and honey were not really detectable, although i am not sure these flavors would work amazingly well with tequila anyway. the oxidation isnt as well covered up either, so the staleness of this one is a turn off, although i bet it was a lot better fresh. the tequila is super dominant, sweet agave and oak and char, like a heavy anejo, which i really like, just not so much in this particular beer. i do like it more and more as i sip on it, and as it warms up. instead of the sweet desserty additives and port-like qualities of the red wine one, this one pulls more of the roasted earthy grain character out, and i cant fault it for that. much like the red wine one, i would have killed to try this fresh. mouthfeel is still nice too though, frothy and big, but drinking a whole lot easier than anything else coming in over 13% abv. still worth picking up if you can find one i think though.

Served in tulip, from bottle, 49°F

Didn't realize this was a discontinued beer when I recently purchased it. Have been loving Bourbon Barrel beers, and thought "Tequila Aged" sounded intriguing…

A: Black, half inch dark brown head. Great sticky lacing though the session.

S: something different, floral, sweet, hint of coffee… but almost an antiseptic finish on the nose as well.

T: upfront with sweet, astringent, and bitter(?). hard to describe, but I keep on sipping….

M: cloying, thick, and asking you to drink more.

O: different, yet still familiar. Very much a nice change from the bourbon barrel aged items. Glad I tried it, and wish I had gotten two when I found these at 5-points in Athens, GA recently.
