A - milkkeller always brews a beautiful beer. Stellar cascade of milk chocolate brown head with outstanding retention and lace. Solid bowling ball black body.

S - relatively light. Red bell peppers, molasses, a touch of smoke and oak.

T - Smooth with chocolate, warm chilies, black coffee, oak, vanilla, and caramel.

M - creamy medium body

O - a really nice chile beer; a well balanced take on the style with only a moderate chile heat.

This doesn't seem to match up with the non-retired listing, Texas Ranger Speyside edition. According to other sources, it seems to have been aged in Eagle Rare barrels, which corresponds with the label text "bourbon whiskey barrels". The bottle uses a yellow background with red text and a pop art-style smoking revolver.

The beer pours black with a good-sized light brown head. As I poured, the stream of liquid appeared a dark magenta/reddish brown, and the head kicked up pretty quickly. The aroma is coffee, caramel and cocoa beans with a little peppery kick. Considering the abv, it smells strikingly rich, way bigger than I'd expect out of 6.6% abv. The taste similarly seems too big and rich for the alcohol content. There's a lot of chocolate and a stronger pepper presence. I'm not a fan of pepper for pepper's sake, but it works in this beer. The pepper blends in nicely with the sweetness, probably adding to that richness by covering lighter flavors, and never gets intense enough to mar the other flavors. The aftertaste has gentle pepper heat, chocolate and coffee. Not to keep revisiting the same theme, but the mouthfeel also feels a lot thicker than I'd expect from a beer of this strength. It's rich and full. Just a big mouthful of stout/porter. I tried a barrel-aged of this beer on tap, and while it was good, I definitely prefer this bottle.

Pours a three finger brown head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Black color, no highlights, some of yeast left in bottle. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Chocolate nose and flavor is almost sweet chocolate, coffee and hints of chipotle spiciness. Beyond expensive (what was I thinking?) at $18.99 for a 375ml bottle from Julio's Liquors Marlboro, MA.
