Cellar temp 11.2 oz bottle poured into my snifter. Bottle cap stamped 24/09/18, which I assume is bottled on date.
The bottle has been in my cellar since I got it in a trade about 1.5 years ago.
The beer pours a deep, rich cola brown color with no light passing through my glass when I hold it to the light.
A dense creamy beige head of 3.5 cm foams up and fades slowly as I sample the beer. This foam leaves dense lattice as it fades and after each sip.
The aroma is rich and malty with dark chocolate, roasted malt notes, coffee grounds, and a bit of brown sugar and chocolate milk character. No hint of any hop character, and a lot more roasted notes than I expected from the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth creamy texture and very fine tingly carbonation. The beer drinks pretty easy as I was expecting when I selected it for the evening.
Flavor is a lot more coffee ground and roasted than I expected, and almost has a charred wood character to it. There is a good mix of milk chocolate and brown sugar too but the coffee grounds flavor lingers and is clearly a dominant player. Hops are absent and the booze is hidden.
If I didnt know, I would swear this was a coffee stout based on the flavor profile. I think it is a solid flavor profile, but the beer isnt as sweet as I anticipated for the style and the coffee flavor is much more starbucks black than light and sweet profile.

Black liquid.
Dark khaki head; nice lacing.
Great chocolate and milk nose. Enticing.
Thick mouthfeel.
A creamy, viscous milk chocolate explosion. A great representation of the style.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet dark toasted malt, cocoa, a hint of coffee and light lactose. Flavor follows, with mildly sweet dark toasted malt, lactose, cocoa and a slight bitterness that is reminiscent of coffee. Smooth. Medium bodied with light creaminess. One of the problems of having tasted so many big imperial stouts is that regular strength stouts seem lacking on first taste and it takes some perspective to review them for what they are and not compare them to the larger models. So it is a pleasant surprise every time I run into a standard strength stout that is both full of flavor and balanced into the finish and this is one of them. It breaks no ground in milk stouts, and is a pretty classic example of one, but all the flavors are integrated and the finish is full with lingering cocoa and malt. Nicely done from a reliable brewer of stouts.
