oh my goodness this is good! like nothing else ive had. its blood red and thick in texture. there is a pretty active red head on top too. the beer is so dense and dark red, never seen one quite this ruby deep and quite intimidating. looks like cherry syrup. the nose is more red wine than anything else. tart and tannic, some lactic acidity too. the fruit is as big as ive ever seen cherries in a beer. in fact, this is ten times more cherry heavy than even the original spontancherry. the cherries are red and ripe and just bursting through the beer, certainly at the expense of any grain or hop character at all. its all fruit, with just a bit of pucker. more juicy than beery, but in a good way. carbonation is really uplifting in a real thick brew, and the alcohol is barely detectable. just blown away how packed in the cherry flavor is, its truly incredible. the acidity cleans up the sweetness that would otherwise be there, and im left with a dry palate loaded with cherry aftertaste. i cant get past it, it transcends what i thought i knew about fruit beer, and is a must try for any fruit beer fan. its next level stuff no doubt.

375ml bottle, @7.2% ABV - very old-world looking label (and I can read the name of the beer - what a concept!).

This beer pours a clear (I think) very dark purple colour, with three fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and fizzy magenta head, which leaves a few instances of sprouting sapling lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of musty cherries (flesh, pit, and stems), red balsamic vinegar, some vanilla-heavy oakiness, a touch of earthy funk, and an indistinct floral bitterness. The taste is tart cherry juice that has been sitting out too long, musty barrel staves (wet wood, vanilla, and a touch of yeastiness), subtle farm-friendly funk, some cooking vinegar acidity, and more plain and hard to isolate earthy and slightly floral green bitters.

The carbonation is fairly benign in its placid frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and sort of smooth, as the tartness is more or less subsumed by the jammy cherry fruitiness, in a manner of speaking. It finishes trending dry, the cherries holding fast, and the general woody notes lingering like they don't have anything better going on.

Overall, this is a genial and relatively easy-drinking fruit Lambic, as the cherry character keeps the funk, sour, and tart essences from asserting any kind of control, which this sports fan appreciates. Add in the virtually undetectable north of 7 points of booze, and we have a very well made brew.

First off, this looks way different than what I expected. I was expecting a lighter reddish color with a pinkish head (usually what I see in a kriek) but this is a deep, midnight purple with a pink/purple/strawberry milkish head with a bit of white on top.

The nose is oddly fantastic. At first it just smelled like a sweet red wine to me but as I really got into it there are notes of banana, grape, dark cherries, strawberry and a hint of vinegar that stings the nose.

The taste is an explosion of juicy, fruity flavors. Grape juice, blueberry, slightly tart honeycrisp apples, tart cherry juice, a bit of vinegary tartness and a hint of banana on the back end. Amazing.

This is pretty full bodied for a kriek. The tartness is just the right level and it feels like real fruit tartness instead of that over exaggerated tartness in some sours (which I also love). Delicious, juicy, tart and full. Fantastic combination.

Dark red pour to Duvel glass with deep pink head. Nose full of cherry like Mom's cherry pie. Taste is huge cherry and mildly sour, like eating cherry pie filling but without all the sugar. Some sweetness present and adds some body. Tastes so real, so good. Moderate carbonation. An amazing representation of the fruit.

Pours an absolutely brilliant bright purple-red with a half finger of reddish foam and a decent viscosity. Looks very much like wine.

Big ripe sour cherry note, noticeable vinous aroma, oak, and a touch of light musty funk.

Sour cherries, grapes, wine, oak, and a nice prickly acidity.

Light-medium bodied, medium-high carbonation, prickly, tart acidity.

Overall, although I truly enjoyed this beer, I thought there to be much more cherry aroma than flavor and the barrel character really gave it a more vinous/wine-like flavor along with heavy oak.

Deep, burgundy red that is the color of nice sweet cherries. Tastes like straight juice from the cherries themselves, with a nice tart tinge to them. Delicious and one of the best from the bottleshare.

Warning: Glass cracked off the bottle under the cap when using a wall mounted opener. Be careful opening

Dark murky crimson color, bright pink foam sizzles and quickly fades after audibly crackling for a few seconds. Still glassy surface after a few minutes, looks like red wine.

Aromas of vanilla and cherry, doughy bread crust, slight sweetness in there.

A light sweetness in the taste, vanilla and pie cherry, with a dry vinous feel. Low carbonation, not unlike the Intense Red I just had. Very much like a dry red wine. The Frederiksdal cherries are unique, slightly sweet at first, becoming tart, and dry with tannins in the finish. Mellow and drinkable, in the vein of Scarenbecca, Intense Red, and other unblended Krieks.
