After one bad experience with a heavily hopped lager (Hops & Bolts, I am looking at you), we are back on the proverbial saddle at Beer Revolution in Calgary on a mission to scout out new and exciting beer offerings for you our loyal readers. Alright, that's enough of that jackassery. Down to brass tacks. This beer is a fairly striking (for a pilsner) almost mustard hue, not much in the way of head and releasing an aroma of bread and citrus. Not a strong aroma either. Flavor is more assertive, quite a lot of citrus hop complexity at least initially (I get grapefruit, lemon, tangerine). The hops are grassy as well, and the initial fruit notes do flatten out into bitter citrus pith and weedy green flavors with some peppery spice, almost like bay leaf or laurel. Finish is medicinal and minerally, with some yeasty notes and acidic tang. Cracker malt takes a back seat. A dry bitter beer but refreshing. Good example of a hops forward pilsner.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 17/7/13

A chill haze in a golden orange body, loose soapy three finger foam gone in seconds leaving a few polka dots of lace

S fruity citrus, Proef yeast, caramel, butterscotch, bread, and a hint of earth and faint catty notes

T more of the same really, just a little lemon rind and spruce to go with what I smell

M medium bodied, soft carbonation, a little grit left behind and a rind finish

O I wouldn't guess pilsner but would pass for a decent pale ale, I'm curious of the hop choice and I'm guessing there's some citra in there

refreshing with a nice hop kick in something I could session, if this wasn't priced 30$ for 6 I could see this making a nice lawnmower beer

330ml bottle. Hard to imagine this not being already on BA, but so be it. Some sort of pils, apparently, so let's find out. As for the name, there's just too much radio static in any search for such a generic enterprise for any sort of serious validation.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, rather glassy, bright medium golden amber hue, with two fingers of bubbly, lazily foamy dirty white head, which leaves some random detritus of high-flying sudsy cloudy lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells of grainy, lightly spicy pale malt, faint aged lemon rind, and earthy, grassy hops. The taste is sharp, grainy pale malt, with a touch of crackery dryness, stale lemon juice, rather less than subtle black pepper, and earthy, leafy, grassy hops.

The bubbles are a bit tacky, but generally just plainly zealous, the body a decent medium weight, and more or less smooth. It finishes mostly dry, on a citrus and grassy bent, with some faintly protesting pale malt notes.

An agreeable enough pils, one apparently heretofore unknown in these wilds until now. Given the pungency, but lack of outright crispness, I'm laying down the law, and proclaiming this as a German (no offense whatsoever) rendition, rather than the more heady Bohemian version. Details, ya know?
