Poirs a clear yellow with fine, soft head.

Smell is bready and grainy with some floral notes and hints of citrus and corn.

Taste is floral and crackery with notes of white bread, citrus and corn. Pretty clean with a soft bitterness.

Mouthfeel is thin, well carbonated.

Overall, a good lager, and my first Maltese beer!

I only saw this one at the grocery stores and never saw it any of the numerous Malta bars. That is too bad as I think it is one of their better offerings.

Pours a medium yellow with a dense white head.

It has a nose of grains and some spice from the hops.

Not sure if I would classify this as a Dortmunder, but it is pretty tasty for a euro lager. Slightly more hoppy than its stable mate the lager. It is a touch grainy, and sweet with apple in the finish.

Mouth is decent.

A - Typical clear, golden straw color with a lot of bubbles and a large foamy, sticky white head. Pretty good retention that eventually settles into a thin sticky layer of lace.

S - Good Pilsener malt and a bit of bready aroma. A fair amount of herbal and floral hops as well. Sweet malt aroma is most dominant though; however, it doesn't really have the vegetable, corny, adjunct smell I was somewhat expecting.

T - Starts with a touch of grainy taste. Quickly some floral and herbal hops come out. A touch of grassy hops and mineral taste comes out mid sip with the sweet malt taste in the background. Finishes with a bit of a bready taste and some grassy hops. Clean taste, but a little thin and light on flavor, especially at the beginning of the sip, as it finishes a bit stronger.

M - Light to medium body (a bit more heft than I was expecting) with a healthy amount of carbonation. Pretty crisp and just a bit of a drying finish.

D - Pretty drinkable beer. A fair amount of hops on a nice Pilsener malt base. Very refreshing and goes down easy. I would drink another if it was given to me, but it doesn't necessarily make me want another one.

Notes: Best before July 2010. I wasn't really sure what to expect from a lager from Malta, but I wasn't expecting much. This was better than was I thought it may be though. Solid lager taste without a vegetable/corny/adjunct taste. The taste was a bit light and thin for me though. That said, it is an easy to drink and decent tasting beer with a fair amount of hops for the style. I don't think I would search for it, or probably even get it again (unless it was on sale), but I would drink it again if I was offered.

Can-Pours a pale sparkling yellow gold. The nose is grainy and full of lemon and honey with a good dose of subtle hops. Tastes of subtle sweet lemon and biscuit with honey and grains, leading to dry, mild, bittering hops. Not groundbreaking, but certainly better than expected.

Never knew that Malta was much of a beer-producing nation. For that matter, I never knew where Malta is actually located, but this is a decent brew. 500mL can, picked up from the LCBO.

Pours an almost apple-juice yellow/gold, with virtually no head, and just a thin layer of lacing (seems everyone else is reporting a much larger head; I reassert that I got none). Visible carbonation.

Smell is mild, but surprisingly malty (and not the traditional bready malt of yellow lagers). Faintly sweet. Lightly hopped (noble?), but in pretty good balance. Maybe a hint of mineral water. No adjunct.

Taste is close to the smell. Pretty malty, sweet (residual sugars), with just a bit of balanced hoppiness. Florals and grass in small doses. A bit of lemony zest. Well-balanced, finishes slightly dry, alternating bitter and sweet. More biscuity on the finish. Not bad.

A bit over-hopped, but otherwise good mouthfeel, and also good drinkability. This is a pretty sessionable lager.

With what's available at the LCBO, I can't really see this being a standard, but it's worth a try, and it may get another chance when I'm putting together my next mix-and-match 8-pack. All hail Malta, our new beer overlords.

Pours light gold with a patchy, sticky, persistent head and very busy carbonation. The aroma is bready and grainy, there's more going on than I expected. The flavor is light and cleanly malty. Subtle, leafy, noble hops provide decent balance. The finish shows moderate hop bitterness and some residual malt sugars. The mouthfeel is full for a lager and actively carbonated.

This is a decent lager. Some pleasant malt flavors mingle with light hop presence to make an easy to enjoy quaffer. Could use a little more hop character though.

Can: Poured a golden color lager with a huge foamy head with good retention but minimal lacing. Aroma consists of medium sweet malt with no distinguishable adjunct. Taste is also dominated by some medium sweet malt note. No hops presence was discernable or any floral notes but I should also say that no major flaw is detectable. Not bad overall but still too bland for my taste buds.

A: Clear yellow with a frothy white head, some retention, nice lacing.

S: Floral, slightly catty & hints of biscuity & toasted malt.

T: Modest bitterness, floral hops with a little grassy spicing, biscuity malt.

M: Moderate body is smooth, though the carbonation is a little high.

D: It's drinkable, but personally I wouldn't buy it again.

Good lord, this is a pale beer. Nice solid head and lacing though, which is surprising and encouraging. Fairly clean taste with a zesty lemony edge. Slightly metallic, bready, and with mild finish. Mouthfeel is solid, but carbonation is a bit strong. I like this one as a nice light summertime beer. More refreshing than flavourful.

Very pale colour with some white head that stays as lace on the way down. More or less easy drinking lager. Near-astringancy soapy finish, a bit of the can's metal, not overwhelmingly unpleasant. A little wet grass. Neutral aroma. Middling mouthfeel.

500 ml can from the LCBO.

Pours a clear straw yellow, almost golden, very nice thick white head forms, drops a ton of lace, bubbles constantly rising, settles to a thick layer, looks real nice. Smell is very crisp, some grains, biscuits, oats, lemony citrus, grass, some floral, quite nice. Taste is similar, sweet and malty, honey and oats, bit of metallic, floral and a bit of orange in the finish, very dry and grainy, but almost a tart edge. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, super smooth, but a sharpness that makes it refreshing. Very nice lager, this might be my standard for hot weather patio drinking, nice flavour, goes down easy, and the price is right.
