Sampled on tap at The Covey on January 23, 2010. This was a silver medal winner at the 2009 GABF so I was looking forward to it. It didn't disappoint. Pours red-brown with some cloudiness. The aroma is fruity with some Belgian yeast and some spices. Smells like a classic Belgian ale. The flavor is dark fruits, yeast, candi sugar and caramel malts. The beer is medium bodied and very drinkable for a beer of this strength.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this growler...
Appears a hazy, semi-transparent dark amber with a mahogany hue. Tiny speckles of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of caramel, ripened dark fruit, bananas, and caramel.
Taste is of caramel, black cherries, plums, and cocoa.
Mouthfeel is sugary, medium bodied, and fruity.

Served in a tulip glass. Light brown with a thin head. Faint malt aroma. Notes of plum in the taste. Tastes of plums with a subtle alcohol hit at the end. Good mouthfeel. Smooth and drinkable. This could sneak up on you. But I don't mind. I think I could drink a couple of these.

Growler acquired in trade with BMan1113VR (thansk!!!).

Poured a medium and hazy brown color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of bananas, fruity, some caramel, dark fruits, lighter roastiness, and spices. Tastes of bananas, brown sugar sweetness, spices, some dark fruits, light chocolate, and a little toasty. Creamy body with the alcohol content well hidden.

On tap at The Covey in a thistle glass

A: Pours a dark amber with a medium off-white head that fades to a ring and leaves some lacing on the glass.

S: The smell is candied almonds with that belgian yeasty spice that really reminds me of nutmeg and cinnamon.

T: The taste is dark fruits, cocoa, and sugary malt with a yeasty flavor I get from so many belgian ales. The spices from the nose last on the palate for a while.

M: The feel is creamy and medium bodied but nothing special...about par for the style.

D: This is really good and I found myself taking sips pretty quickly due to the great flavors until the ABV caught up with me...

I'm not a fan of belgian beers but this one was too good. Definitely deserving of their silver medal at the GABF...
