First had: on tap at their brewery
Poured an opaque brown-black with a small tannish head. Roasty malts in the aroma, chocolate tones, and some wafts of phenol. Sweet and malty taste, nutty, with light semi-sweet chocolate; okay, but a bit watered down. Medium mouthfeel, and much too light and watery to be a "good" stout. Moderately drinkable, but not something I'd seek out again.

Pours jet black with an off white head. In the aroma, quite roasty with a hint of chocolate. In the taste, roasted malt and dry coffee, and just a touch of sweetness. A small bite and medium bodied mouthfeel, with a small dry coffee in the aftertaste. Nice stout with small touches of coffee and chocolate.

On tap at the brewpub. This brew is solid black with a medium thin and fizzy beige head that diminishes rapidly. Specks of lacing. Nutty, roasted malt aroma. Medium-bodied and smooth with roasted coffee and malt flavors that fall off pretty fast. There is a touch of chocolate as well but again it retreats quickly. The finish is on the thin side and feels soapy, with a lingering hops and coffee aftertaste. Average overall..

Going on memory with this one even though I only had it yesterday. Dark as a stout should be with a strong smell of coffee chocolate and dark malts. Taste has that coffee and chocolate it with roasted malts that create an almost black coffee like bite. That black coffee bite mixes in with the subtle hops that make it known its still beer. This stout is very well balanced. I usually like stouts with a bit more hops in it but this one definitely does well even though the hops are subtle. Finishes dry and smooth. My favorite thing about this beer is that it has such a full flavored taste for a quite lower alcohol content. I've tasted 9 percent beers that had the same body as this beer. One of my favorites out of the sampler I had at Tun Tavern.

From notes 6-9-10
I purchased a growler at the Tun Tavern and reviewed it from my palatial estate at the Comfort Inn in Philadelphia while on vacation.
I poured into a Hard Rock hurricane glass as it was the only glassware in my room. As you can imagine I had about 8 inches of dark tan head. The beer appeared black. I didn't see any light coming through. The aroma gave me hints of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and roasted nuts. The taste was dark chocolate and roasted coffee. The mouthfeel was nice and creamy. It was very easy drinking and smooth.
