Abbey Roade is brewed in the tradition of the famous Belgian Abbey-style ales. This wonderful brew is soft and sweet up front. The complex and spicy middle palate is in most part due to the generous addition of dark Belgian candy sugar. This semi-dry ale has notes of ripe plum and pear with a peppery finish.

The origins of the Abbey-style ale date back to the Middle Ages. Monks residing in monasteries, called Abbeys, brewed beer as a source of nutrition during their frequent and often lengthy fasting periods.

Had on tap. Mostly opaque brown with a tan cap. Aromas of dark fruit with not the most expressive belgian yeast, caramel and candi sugar give a sweet impression by the end of the sniff. Taste is much the same with an emphasis on sweentess and dark fruit, some booze leakage ironically helps. Feel is lighter for style, very malty and while smooth gets very sweet in the cheeks as you go. A noble attempt by an american brewer

Review from notes on 6/4/10.

Poured mahogany/cherry brown, somewhat murky, failed attempt at a rich head. Raisins, hint of caramel, and mild earth from the hops. Pretty one dimensional. Taste was nearly identical with the aroma, nondescript. Somewhat undercarbonated. I'm not too happy with this beer. Poured it and went on to the next. Maybe I'm too picky with my Belgian beers? It's hard to fit the shoes of quintessential examples like Westmalle, Rochefort, and Chimay...

Served in an oversized mug a bit too cold at the brewpub. Pours an amber brown color with barely a lace of minorly tanned head. Retension is poor. Aroma has a bit of clove and spice. Taste is the usual suspects when it comes to the dubbel style. Slight bit of yeast, some phenols, spice, clove, minorly leaning towards banana and a nice slap of alcohol warmth. It has a thin body and nearly flat in carbination. This is sadly starting to become a growing epidemic with the beer served at the cameron street location... Slight hop character with a bit of bitterness left lingering in the mouth with the other spices. Overall not bad but nothing to go out of your way for either.

Reviewed from my notes. Pours an opaque brown with a thin white head of small bubbles. It has a grassy yeast aroma. There is a mild sweetness to the flavor as well as some spices. It is not unlike some Belgian beers, but not as high quality as something from Delerium, for example. There is a medium-to-full body and moderate carbonation. I find this to be a good session beer--if it were sold in 750ml bottles (is it?) I would enjoy sitting down with one.

Poured a medium amber hue with a one finger frothy white head. There was good retention and very good lacing.

The smell featured an estery yeast, earthy malts and a light candy sugar.

The taste consisted of upfront esters, caramel and a subtke candy sweetness.

The mouthfeel was toward the ligher side of the style.

Overall a tasty and user friendly dubbel.

Poured a nice dark copper-brown with some nice head and good lacing. Nice scent, very malty with a slight sweet scent from the candy sugars. Great taste, rich and thick with a nice dark malty flavor, excellent sweet tones, and a nicely balanced finish. Goes down very smooth. A very good Belgian.

A - A reddish hue. A bit cloudy.

S - Sweet. Very appealing. Malty and sweet.

T - Candied Sugar. A taste of roasted candy sugar followed by a spicy finish. Good.

M - A definite sweet taste on the tongue and as is lingers a bit of hops and spicy in the finish.

D - This is a good beer. I have had many better belgians but all in all a good choice and well done by ABC.

On tap at ABC Camp hill on 3/6/09.

A - Poured a hazy reddish-orange color with moderate carbonation and a slim off-white head that settled into a patchy film and deposited a thick latticework of lacing around the glass.

S - Initial aroma reminds me of a wheat beer with a heavy clove presence and some Belgian yeast. However, as I dig deeper, I stumble upon some dark fruit and a mild peppery spiciness with a touch of earthy funk in the back.

T - Clove and pepper spiciness kick things off with a bit of dark fruit tartness to complement. Some mild funk emerges in the backend. Finishes with some spicy yeast and a bit of earthy bitterness.

M - Pretty full-bodied with a thick, syrupy texture and lively carbonation, resulting in a bristly mouthfeel overall. Bitter and slightly sour in the finish with just a dash of funk.

D - Oh Darling! I was actually pleasantly surprised by the flavor and complexity of this Belgian-style ale, because there was definitely something that just made it all come together in the end. Her Majesty would be proud of ABC for brewing this beer!

A- A murky raisin type of color. A nice head but it quickly dissipates. Somewhat opaque but it reminds me of dirty brown water.

S- floral hops and spice. some caramel malt as well.

T- candied sugar and plums and ginger. After getting halfway through the beer the ginger starts to dominate more than the plum flavor. Floral and peppery finish.

M- sweet and chewy. A filling beer. good carbonation as well.

D- too sweet to be able to consider a session beer. If i had 3 i would feel a huge sugar rush. Not bad though.

Served on-tap at the Harrisburg Location.

A: Cloudy, dark copper color, very little head

S: Dominant spicy smell, with a slight caramally smell

T: A bit thin, but flavorful, the spices also dominate the taste

M: Thin and smooth, adequately carbonated

D: Easy drinker; doesn't really stand out among dubbels or ABC's brews.
