12oz bottle, gift from a friend from PA... Have had a few Appalachian beers, but not this one, until now... The label says it's currently 5.30% ABV...

Pours jet black, with a thin, fine, dark tan head. The topping ebbs rapidly, receding to the rim, with light lacing. Aroma is inviting, with a healthy amount of lightly sweet chocolate and cocoa wafting about. The body is somewhat less than medium, and it's more prickly than expected.

Taste also goes chocolate, though it's much less sweet than the aroma suggests. It's more like dark choco, with some bitterness, plus a bit of roasty action. Also has a hint of caramel before finishing with a subtle, floral hop finish. Thnx, Todd Craig! Prosit!!

Poured into a pint glass: color is dark brown near black, head is light tan with fine bubbles, head presents 1/2 inch thick then dissipates to a thin top and some lacing.

Smell is pretty neutral at first, as it warms cocoa flavors are brought forward, lighter sweet malt.

Taste is similar with light sweet cocoa, lighter bitterness from the chocolate, some light caramel malt, toast, roasted malts. Good flavor.

Mouthfeel is moderate, with good carbonation and crisp bitterness with light lingering sweetness.

Overall a very good beer with great chocolate flavor and good stout backbone.

On tap pour at Red Robin, Hershey, PA The appearance has a dark brown/black body yields an off-white/tan one finger head, lotsa light sediment floating around, light tan lacing slides down. The smell has deep dark chocolate, light coffee and malts come out once the beer warms a bit. The taste is mainly sweet through the chocolate, coffee becomes practically non-present in the taste. The palate is about a medium, comes across sweet and creamy, and has a sweet sticky aftertaste, dry finish, not as sessionable. Overall, this was perhaps closer to a milk/sweet stout because of the sweet complexities that come out in it, however, this was still a good beer that impressed me as I found as I got to the bottom of this one that was real chunks of chocolate floating around. I’d probably get this one again as a dessert.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. no freshness dating.

first off, this one was a bit lively when i poured it, and i lost half of it to overflow.

black and brown body. small tan head. some lacing. a lot of sediment laying on the bottom of the glass.

aroma seemed a bit off. quite heavily roasted malt, no chocolate notes.

again, mostly heavily roasted malt on the taste, no chocolate.

mouth a bit above medium, slightly burnt and bitter on the finish.

overall, possibly a off bottle, but i didnt much care for this. will re-review if i have again and its greatly different.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of chocolate, coffee. Taste is the same, coffee, chocolate, neither is overpowering, some smoke, mild bitterness at the finish. Feels creamy in the mouth and overall is a smooth and tasty stout worth trying.
