Until recently, I lived in the Milwaukee area, but somehow never made it to the place. I was happy to be back in the area so I could get a chance to visit. The "American Club" was quite nice, and the Horse and Plow seemed a homey and casual oasis within it. The downstairs bar with lots of wood reminded me of "The Tombs" in Georgetown. I sat at the bar and was impressed by the thoughtful-ness of the 12 taps present....a nice selection of mid-western beers which included some new offerings from New Glarus hadn't had (Black Wheat). The beer tasted good, and I had a really good club sandwich (with pesto) and sweet potato fries (why can't all fries be sweet potato fries?). The bar-tendress was quick and pleasant, and knew what was in her charge (knew all the beers on draft, etc). I was pretty happy with my visit, and would happily return the next time I'm in the area.

If I am paying Kohler prices, I need better service and quality food. NEVER get their cheese curds; extreme disappointment will set in. The only reason this place received any positive review from me is due to their selection, especially the local beer.

Stopped here today after playing a round at Blackwolf Run. Got to grab a bite to eat, have a couple beers and watch the Kentucky Derby. The cheeseburger I had was delicious, cooked perfectly (the sweet potato fries were overcooked), the bartendress was very friendly, fast, and efficient. Selection was decent...nice selection of more mainstream local taps from New Glarus, Great Dane, Tyranena, Central Waters, etc. and quite a few bottles (some local but quite a few from out of state). Some bottles on the beer list were a bit on the pricey side but deservedly so....KBS, GI BCS, '05 Thomas Hardy's, etc. Had a good time, had more than enough to eat and will definitely go back again.

The Horse and Plow has a very nice atmosphere. We went there for a Saturday afternoon lunch and had tremendous service. The beer menu had roughly 10 selections to chose from. The selections on tap change often. We decided on a pitcher of Milwaukee Ale House's Pull Chain Ale. The pitcher cost $16. They also have an impressive list of reserve beers that can be purchased by the bottle. They consist of breweries such as New Glarus, Founders, Fullers, etc.

The menu offered a variety of food choices. I highly recommend the Cowboy Burger. It is a bacon cheeseburger that was excellent.

The waitress told us they are in the process of revamping their Mug Club membership as well.
