Pint from PP San Clemente

Pour was a golden yellow color with a foamy head about an inch thick

Smell was full of tomahawk hops and some amarillo as well

Taste was a little malty and was a nice mixture of sweetness and bitter bite

Could drink a good amount of these

Draught @ San Clemente Location: This one poured a golden color that was a bit hazy. There was some white head to it. There was a good hop aroma to it, mainly of pine and grapefruit both. The taste was mainly of piney hops. There was a decent medium malt body to the beer. Very Good!

A very solid APA from the Port, this one comes as a slightly hazy amber body with a small and slightly off-white head that laces reasonably well down the glass. The nose is somewhat light but provides an equal dose of malt and hops. The taste is lightly hoppy and quite good, with the balance being struck between the malt and hops. Decently crisp finish with a nice dry ending. Solid drinkability that goes well with the Port's pizza.

A trip to the San Clemente Pizza Port last Sunday for the purposes of swapping some beer with my good friend xlperro (aka Richard the Lionheart) resulted in the fine opportunity of trying some beers here.

The Poche Pale was my second beer, not by my direct choice though in itself; well not until I sampled a taster offered from the lovely waitress who I later bemused.

You see I was immediately concerned by the name “Pale”, I thought this was the standard weenie breast drinking to powdered milk bridge beer offering for Bud-Drinkers.

How wrong could I be!! This is an American Pale Ale, but not in the sense of a sub-par macro beer. It is a light offering, both in color and body, but it has bags for flavor and a decent nose. Inviting once tasted it rights many incorrect wrongs and misperceptions.

A lightly hazed golden body with copper hints, it retained a decent enough off-white head throughout. Great appearance. Started with a sour-bitterness that worked into a hoppy middle. Restrained but tasty and very flowery at times. Mouthfeel is average which is no surprise for this beer, but it is far from a wishy-washy beer. Finishes with plenty of light toasted pilsner malts and a dry floral hoppiness. Very quaffable.

Goes really well with one of the Port’s spicy Pizza’s that is covered in Jalapeno Peppers!

Poche Pale is an American Pale Ale. It pours a hazy golden color. The flavor is highlighted by hoppiness, but has a nice malt backbone to give it some balance. I found it to be quite enjoyable. I had this on tap at Pizza Port San Clemente. Amarillo & Tomahawk hops are used.
