Surfboards come in all shapes and sizes, but the fish surfboard is known as the fun, everyday board found in every surfer's quiver. Just like the board, Fish IPA was brewed for enjoyment in all conditions. This West Coast IPA has bright citrus and tropical notes that are followed by a clean, dry finish. Reach into your quiver and enjoy a session with Fish IPA. Cheers!

Malts: 2-Row, Carafoam, Flaked Rice
Hops: Citra, Centennial, Pacific Jade, Simcoe

February 7th, 2016 - Pizza Port's Ocean Beach Location's Big Fish is the right companion for an unusually hot February San Diego day. It has a nice blonde, light hazy quality and a bubbling head rich with proteins and some interesting bubble engineering. Tropical fruit and New Zealand hops bound out of the glass, with a little dankness, and a good hop forward aroma with some broiled grapefruit to give a little breakfast sweetness. The flavor is exceptionally fresh, though, with a thinner palate and a quenching quality. The aftertaste is therefore surprisingly long,. It reminds me a lot of their Swami brew too, and other IPAs from their recent sampler box available for sale at Costco.

Picked up a single 16 oz can from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler 10-10-18 for $2.16. Canned on 9-14-18 and cold stored since purchase. Consumed on 2-10-19.

Beer poured a golden orange with a beautiful three finger head that has some good hang time.

Nose is herbal with a touch of citrus.

Taste is classic WCIPA. Medium malt backbone is infused with grapefruit, orange, and mango. Finishes with a medium pine tar.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and refreshing.

Overall this is a nice representation of the style. Age wise it held up well with the cold storage.

I guess leftpaw picked this up at Speedway when he was out here last week. Pours a yellow color, average clarity, 1/2" white head on the top, looks like a west coast ipa all around. Aroma wasn't the most pungent, but it dropped some grassy tree like hop notes on down the pike. Saw Citra hops, but it doesn't smell like Citra hops. Might be a small % of the total hop bill.

Taste seemed to have the Simcoe hop as the primary driver, plenty of bitterness, grapefruit, more tree stuff, light but mega dry body in the mouth feel. Centennial brings the 2nd most impact to the party. Really didn't pick any contribution of Citra, and I don't even know what the hell Pacific Jade is all about, all I know is it didn't lend anything to distinguish from the Simcoe and Centennial being the heavy hitters here.

Its a good enjoyable beer, decent price. Its not in Pizza Port's numerous elite tier hoppy offerings, but its still pretty good.

Only think I knew about this beer when I picked it up that it was Pizza Port and probably either really good or overrated. Once I actually looked at the back of the can when I started to review this, I got more into it. Skip the beginning, but the can description read, “Surfboards come in all shapes and sizes, but the fish surfboard is known as the fun, everyday board found in every surfer's quiver. Just like the board, Fish IPA was brewed for enjoyment in all conditions. This West Coast IPA has bright citrus and tropical notes that are followed by a clean, dry finish. Malts: 2-Row, Carafoam, Flaked Rice Hops: Citra, Centennial, Pacific Jade, Simcoe.” I’m not at the point where I can recognize malts yet, but I am with the hops. Citra and Simcoe I love, Centennnial I like and Pacific Jade I am vaguely familiar with.

Poured a golden clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass at a fast pace. Excellent foamy lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled trash, garlic, onion, Citra, lemon zest, peppery spice, pine, herbal and grapefruit. More hops from the nose with Citra and Simcoe leading the way. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was not quite as good as the nose initially. Got Citra up front, followed by Simcoe and lingering peppery spice. Also unmistakable Centennial, trash, garlic, onion, bitter pine, herbal, grapefruit, lemon zest and stone fruit. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Really liked this beer. Feels like I overrated it, but will re-evaluate. (Overall - 4.00)

Clean and deeply hoppy. Clear amber in the tulip with plenty of foam. Citrus peel aroma with a long cedar nose. Flavor starts with some honey-toned, caramel malt with grapefruit peel following. Some pineapple but it's hard to ignore the lip burning hop heat. Astringent yet mellow and nutty underneath.

Dank is the word. This is such a nice change from the fruit froth murkshakes. Still, enough bitterness would be plenty. Bitter aftertaste you have to love to appreciate. Still it's one of the more interesting Pizza Port beers in cans. From the 16 oz can purchased at BottleCraft.

Canned 08/29/18

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and golden yellow in color with an off-white, half finger width head. Fair retention before dying to a thin, broken layer of suds, thickening up around the edge of the glass. Fair retention with broken lines and small spotting.

Smell - Citrus, pineapple and a hint of floral hop notes with lesser caramel malt sweetness.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange, grapefruit and pineapple flavor mostly, with a nice touch of caramel malt giving the brew some balance. Finishes much the same but with a hint of mango adding a nice touch.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Slick, silky texture makes this a stupid easy drinker with a refreshing, slightly dry finish.

Overall - Nice flavor and a stupid easy drinker. Not a World Beater, but damn does it deliver.

Pours a clear straw color with great lacing.

Whiffs of muted pineapple, apricot and light pine.

Taste is West Coast at it’s finest. Almost forgot what a WC IPA should taste like with all the haziness happening. Nice citrus explosion from the first sip and a long and lingering bitter aftertaste. Not sure I’ve ever had the Pacific Jade hop but it puts a unique flavor profile to this brew.

Overall this is a limited brew and worth searching out if you want to get back to the Best.....er....West Coast style IPA that makes the style what it is. Good stuff.
