This beer pours an inky black with a very thick creamy tan head. The head fades very slowly, leaving a massive amount of laces.

This beer has a malty sweet aroma. I can detect a slight caramel aroma to it. Chocolate lays hidden, but noticable if you look. Not much on hops.

This beer is very dry. It has a malty flavor. I can also taste some coffee. As with the aroma, hops are not very strong.

This beer is very thick. It is creamy. It goes down smooth, leaving a malty aftertaste. It is carbonated well.

This beer would be a good session beer. It didnt seem to be that high in alcohol, and the flavor was certainly not aggressive. I thought this beer was slightly booring. It was good, just not anything that left a lasting impression on me.

On cask, via handpump, @ Pizza Port Carlsbad on 3/18/10. Served in a pint glass.

Pours black, with a finger of smooth and creamy light mocha colored head. This stays hugely rich and frothy, leaving thick patchy lacing behind. Chocolate malts and coffee makes up the bulk of the aroma, while some herbal and citric hop character glides along the back. Fairly dry and roast here in the nose.

The taste is once again dry roasted chocolate malts and coffee, with some pronounced fruity citric tones behind it. Fairly moderate hop presence here, with the roasted nature that is present providing the bulk of the bitterness and is what's haning out in the finish for the most part. The mouthfeel is medium bodied but feels much lighter in the mouth because of the cask conditioning. Maybe a touch too light? It almost gets a little watery is spots but never quite gets there and you can't really argue with how effortlessly this drinks.

This was decent. Nice full roasty flavors but I felt that this was a tad too light for an Export Stout even though you expect this to be thinned out some by the cask. Drinkibility was killer though. I downed this glass in no time.

Arrived with a thin head and was nice and dark like a stout should be.

I didn't really smell much to be honest, a bit of roast perhaps.

After I allowed it warm a bit more, the flavor was a hint of coffeee and more roastiness.

Mouthfeel was disappointingly thin. Personally I like a thicker chewier texture from my stouts.

This stout was very drinkable. Went down almost too easily. Not bad, just not up there with the best.

On nitro at Pizza Port Carlsbad

A: The pour is just about black with a creamy, khaki colored head that exhibits excellent retention.

S: Like most beers of the style, heavy on the roast and coffee aromas. A little bit of licorice and dark chocolate giving the beer some sweetness. Earthy hops are there in the background.

T: Intense coffee flavor or both the beverage itself and of coffee grounds. Cocoa and dark chocolate, along with earthy hops, provide a fairly substantial bitterness. A touch of molasses and toffee for sweetness.

M: Medium in body with a smooth, creamy carbonation.

O: Goes down pretty easily. It's nice to have some of these lower ABV beers. Especially a good one like this.

Consumed on tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad on 11/1/2009 in a 10oz glass. The beer is opaque and black with a big creamy nitro looking light brown head. Hmm, maybe this was on nitro. I can't be certain. The head never really recedes, but lingers in a condensed form. Lacing clings to the side of the glass. Beautiful.

The nose is very subtle with light coffee and roasted malt notes. There's also a low level of chocolate. No hops or alcohol are evident. Nothing really stands out. I have to search for the aroma.

The flavor is dry with roasted and grainy malt notes. Bitterness is at a low level. The beer is bittersweet, and I detect unsweetened chocolate with a touch of astringency. The beer is medium bodied with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel and a medium level of carbonation.

On nitro tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and a slightly nutty aroma. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp yet smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy to drink.

On nitro-tap at Port Carlsbad, listed as a Dry Stout, 4.25%

A: Pours black with a solid nitro head, light tan, good retention, thick sticky lacing.

S: Not much of a nose, but some good roast notes.

T: Great mix of roasted malt bitterness and sugary sweetness here. Light coffee and milk chocolate form the main flavour. Hops are light with a mild bitter kick in the aftertaste.

M: Smooth and creamy. More of a body than a typical nitro stout.

D: My first Port beer actually brewed on premisis at a Port brewpub and I am quite impressed. Great low alcohol session beer as I had to drive 70 miles to get home.

Served on tap at Pizza Port in San Clemente.
Overall a well balanced port that does a good job of delivering a solid flavor. Smooth mocha/caramel/chocolate flavoring. The only downside to this beer is that it doesn't have a strong finish. It basically just ends and tasted like any other microbrew port.
