On-tap at Pizza Port Solana Beach, on to the beer:

This fresh hop ale is orange amber colored, topped with solid head retention, and a lot of lace clinging to the glass. There's something about that aroma; it's extremely well hopped, lively, full of pine, pineapple, citrus, and freshness. Not missing the beat is the taste, which is done very well. Not only is it vibrant, but appealing. Notes of orange, resin, pine, cannabis, all popping out of a base bready malt, makes this beer a joy to drink. It's medium bodied with modest carbonation and a relatively low bitterness point for a fresh hop ale.

Awesome! One of my new favorites to carry the Port Brewing moniker.

MNF & WS on at same time, some pizza & beer. I love it.

A- perfectly clear golden orange with multiple streamers contributing to a thin creamy white head.

S- I get some beautiful citrus and....mango off the top. The tropical mango lingers for a while. Delicious.

T- starts off with the tropical fruit, sweet mango with some slight piney. Then there is some biscuit in there too. The mango flavor is delicious.

M- light and easy with some mild soft carb.

D- this is delicious and easy to drink. Love it.

From 10/26/10 notes. Had on tap at the Brickskeller during its Wet Hop event with Tomme Arthur. Brought from the Solana Pizza Port location.

a - Pours a transparent golden amber color with one inch of white head and low carbonation evident.

s - Smells of light citrus hops, fruity malts, and light pine. No bitterness in the smell at all.

t - Tastes of light citrus, fruity malts, grapefruit, and pine, with some slight bitterness.

m - Medium body and low carbonation, very smooth and easy to drink. Great mouthfeel.

d - A pretty good APA. Some nice citrus and pine in the smell and taste and it was very easy to drink. Would try again.

Pizza Port Solana Edition. On tap at The Brickskeller during its "Whet" Hop Ales event with Tomme Arthur.

Pours orange-copper with a white head and loads of lacing. The aroma is very light with some pale malt and very slight pine hop characteristics. The taste brings some fresh hops and a bit of greenness. Tomme informed us that this use 180 pounds of fresh hops in a 7-barrel batch. Feel brings some light bitterness and lower levels of carbonation. Overall, this was quite sessionable.

Had this on tap at Stone Brewery.

The appearance is yellow. This is why I was not impressed with the appearance. Just nasty yellow fizzy beer look.

The smell was a step up, but with minimal 'awesomeness' factor. Hops, but nothing crazy. Clean, maybe too watered down.

The taste was good although, and the brew was drinkable. It had a real refreshing taste, and I think that this one was brewed with too much water and not enough 'stuff'. Lots and lots of hop flavor but no real malt background to help push it out.

The mouthfeel was good, good carbonation and some hop bitterness to help it out. The drinkability is really high because it is not a very complex beer but one worth drinking on a hot summer day.

Pours clear copper with a ring of white bubbles. Fresh cgrapefruit and pineapple hops with a light caramel nose. Pink grapefruit with sugar on top taste, but with a bitter, earthy malt back, similar to a lighter ESB. Some pine, buit not much. Thought this was a wet-hopped APA at first. Overall, a very refreshing IPA.

Bright golden with a thick and extremely creamy head. A thick coat of lacing clings to the side of my glass in a way that only a cask conditioned ale could. The aroma is grassy, earthy, piny hops, and grapefruit. The hops taste very green in this beer, and grapefruit is notiecable. There's a nice level of bitterness in this pale ale which continues through the long dry finish. Smooth and creamy.

Golden orange, small tight head of foam. Aromas of fresh 'C' hops is off the hook, super amped up cascase, jesus that fresh hop sack must have been filled to the brim. Taste doesn't quite follow through on lupulin potential. Still wonderfully hoppy with a nice soft biscuity maltiness that really work for me. Mouthfeel is spritzy and champagne like almost in its liveliness. This is some classy stuff. Drinkability is tops. Jesus, port is really churning out masterful ipas lately!

Sampled the 2007 batch of this wet hop ale at the O'briens wet hop fest and I have to say after Day 1 of their party this is the stand out fresh hop ale. The smell is a wonderful Cascade hop punch with hints of peaches for some reason. Very fresh aroma. Tastes amazing with flowery, spicy and citrusy notes. Could be a bit of grapefruit but more toward peaches for me personally. Very drinkable and enjoyable. Listed at 5% ABV since that's not shown above. The cascades were used as finish hops only, not for bittering (at least the fresh ones).

Sampled at Pizza Port Solana Beach. Matched great with the pizza.

Appearance: Orangey amber, thin but sturdy head.

Smell: You can definately smell leaffy, green hop aromas in there, it gets more and more herbal as it warms up, going almost to green tea like levels, then going oaky, as if it were aged in a cask.

Taste: Decent body and quite smooth malty, cookie crunch, and the tea-like tannic aftertaste really shines through, like some kind of hop infusion. An interesting seasonal brew!
