Reviewed from notes.

Pours a nice golden color with a bit of a white head and lacing, but not as much as I would expect from a tripel. The nose brings some spice and fruit as well as some light grain sweetness. The taste is mostly spice and fruit without too much else, though what is there is a bit nice. Feel is nice with some spice and fruit with good carbonation. Drinks fairly well, but doesn't stand up to the Belgian examples of the style.

On tap at Pizza Port OB. Amber brew with a modest foam in the tulip. So sharp and aromatic. Odd smell I can't place but it's intriguing and makes me think of not quite ripe pineapple.

Delightfully tart along with the malty sweetness. Deeply fruity with a touch of lime hard candy. Finally it dries out at the finish but still with the sharp fruity zing. This is one of the best Tripels I've had in a long time.

Brewed at Pizza Port San Clemente.
Description: Belgian style triple with coriander and orange zest.

On tap at the 2009 Pizza Port Belgian Beer Fest. Pours a bright, vibrant golden into my Chimay glass. The pillowy white head is an inch high. The retention is great and there's a lot of lacing on my glass.

The aroma has a subtle sweetness to it and come citrus, mainly orange. It's a bit spicy from the coriander, which is a welcome addition to the aroma. The oranges are indeed zesty and the alcohol is somewhat noticeable. The taste is sweet with a caramel malt backbone and some subtle earthy hops. There's some orange in the flavor with a bit of coriander spice which continues through to the dry finish. The alcohol is subtle.

The beer is light bodied with good carbonation and a dry and sticky mouthfeel.

The added citrus and coriander made for an enjoyable take on the style.

I had this one on tap at the Three Floyd's Brewpub on 8/8/2009. Served to me in a stemmed tulip glass.

A= This ale poured a bright medium gold color with a 3/4" loose foamy white head. The head dropped to zero in a minute or two and left just a few spots of lace behind. Not a lot of obvious carbonation release present.

S= Smelled as it should with sweet pale malt, noble hops, and fruity esters all dancing around a funky yeast character.

T= The flavor began on the sweet side and then progressively got drier as each sip went on. The malt base tasted of sweet biscuits, the hops were a bit grassy but well in check, and the yeast threw in fruity, medicinal, herbal, and outright funky notes. Finished fairly dry but lacking in crispness.

MF= Medium bodied with a terribly undercarbonated mouthfeel. This style should feel lighter and more effervescent than this example.

D= This was a mixed bag as it had good drinkability but also some flaws. The aroma and flavor were pretty good, but the appearance and the mouthfeel suffered from that lack of proper carbonation. While this is not the best tripel out there, if the carbonation was right it would be a damn good one.

Had this on-tap at Pizza Port in San Clemente. Pours a golden orange colour with a thin strip of white head. Some lacing on the glass. Smells of Belgian yeast, spicy, with some citrus hops. Actually much hoppier than many tripels, though not up to a Belgian IPA level. Quite a fruity aroma as well. Flavour is quite dry. A nice tripel.

Draught at PP San Clemente on July 2, 2009. Gold with a white head. Spicy, peppery aroma, but overall a little muted. The orange jumped out in the flavor, with some spice an doughy yeast. Dry finish with light alcohol warmth. Nice and light in the mouth with spritzy carbonation. Nice stuff, but not really too interesting. The dry finish was a nice touch though.
