Out of a Cask at the 7th Annual Firkin Fest @ Triple Rock

Poured a hazy gold and had a pungent grapefruit aroma.

Up front flavor was a spicy hop (Slap?) and low malt toastyness.

Finished bitter; yet, not cloying (tickle?)

Low to medium bodied and overall a nice cask.

Got a growler fill of this 2/21/10 for a party. Never had it before which is a shame b/c we have been missing this. Was very popular and well received with friends. Not sure how often it is brewed but I hope they keep it around, I will be back for more.

Pours a amber, reddish. Great head with legs to last. But aroma and taste are what matters with this great brew! Fantastic! Aroma is of primarily of tropical fruits, apricot, peach and some grapefruit hints as well. Taste is crisp and refreshing. Taste reminds me more of an IPA a little malt bust mostly hops. I could drink this all night. Very sessionable at 6%, wishing I had gotten 2 growlers full.

PizzaPort – Carlsbad

Quite possibly the best beer name ever!

A: Pours a super clear and effervescent golden amber color with a thick khaki whip and some crazy tracks of lace down the glass.

S: Nose is pretty signature Pizza Port. Pungent with grapefruit rind, pine, soft hints of apricot fruit, and some sweet caramel goodness.

T: Hops are mostly grapefruit as well. Tangerines with some nice grass & floral notes. Upper-moderate bitterness. A light sugared cracker malt base that brings a touch of breadiness. So tasty. So drinkable.

M: Mouthfeel is on the lighter side and somewhat creamy with a real dry crisp finish to it. Sticky hop resinous coating. Higher carbonation factor.

D: A fantastic sessiony American Strong Pale. Lots of citrus hops on a light malt base. Each sip begs for another.
This batch actually doesn’t seem quite as hoppy as the last but still a great brew. Crisp, light, dry, hoppy, and delicious!

Slap and Tickle all day long baby!!!!

On-tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad

Pours a hazed golden color with a sticky white head. Intense grapefruit aroma to this. It's very citric. Very little malt to it all. There's some pine, maybe a bit of pineapple. A bit of weed, too. The flavor is just as much intense grapefruit as the aroma had with a bit more pine bitterness and pineapple. The marijuana is there, too. Just a hint of pale malt flavor. Light body, medium carbonation, and easy to drink.

Consumed on tap at Port Carlsbad on 10/25/2009. The beer is light honey orange. The bar pour yields a small frothy head that leaves behind lacing.

The nose has a good deal of pine with lesser notes of citrus in the form of grapefruit. The hops are quite pungent, which I noticed when I tried this at the Ballast Point Anniversary Fest yesterday. The malt is crackery and in the background, allowing the pungent pine to emanate. I think this is more like an IPA than a Pale ale.

The flavor is dry bitter pine and grapefruit. The malt is light, unobtrusive, and crackery. The beer finishes dry with notes of orange and grapefruit.

This is a good light bodied hoppy pale ale with strong pine presence.

Pale ale? hmm...methinks this is an ipa.

Pours a light golden orange. Smells like pine, maybe some tropical pineapple, and a splash of citrus.

Taste is primarily pine. Could definitely use more fruit presence. A dry, sort of acrid finish to it. Okay, but wasn't too excited about it. No malt presence at all.

Nice mouthfeel.
