On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad.

A: Dark amber with a white head.

S: Rich caramel with notes of sugar and bread. Fruity esters bring apple and pear to mind. Alcohol is noticeable but faint.

T: Sweet and sugary caramel with toffee and much bread. Lots of apple and pear. Alcohol is surprisingly well hidden given its potency.

M: Medium in body with matching carbonation.

Overall: Tastes like a stronger version of Carlsbad Chronic. Just okay.

On-tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad

A: The beer pours a clear amber color with a finger or two of clingy off-white head.

S: First aroma to hit the nose is sweet toffee malt, bread, and light caramel. There is a fair bit of toffee as well as some fruity esters and sweet, citrusy hops. A very light grapefruit aroma.

T: Like the nose, plenty of caramel, toffee, and bread. There is a decent fruit note which comes through to me as peaches and apricots. A mild grass and pine note with a hint of grapefruit. Perhaps a touch of booze.

M: The body is just on the full side of medium with a medium level of carbonation.

O: I don't know what it is, but Pizza Port's amber ales tend to underwhelm me a bit. This was okay, but I don't think I would order it again.
