On-tap at Strong Ale 2011

Pours amber in color with a finger of khaki colored foam. Smells highly fruity, very much like plums. There isn't too much brandy, to be honest. Just very sweet; almost like pure sugar. As it warms there is a fair amount of vanilla. The flavor is just as sweet with tons of red plum flavor. Mild chocolate oxidation along with hints of vanilla and oak. Some toffee and caramel along with sugar. Somewhat light in body with medium carbonation.

On tap at Strong Ale 2011. This is Pizza Port Carlsbad's beer.

A: Dark brown and opaque with an inch of beige foam.

S: Caramel, toffee, and big brandy notes with some chocolate. Vanilla is pronounced and I get some oak. Dark fruit notes are redolent of plum and prune.

T: Chocolate melds with caramel and dark toffee. The brandy barrel really complements the base beer. Oak is evident and there's a little vanilla.

M: Lower full body with low carbonation.

Overall: Very good. Nothing else to say.

Draft at Toronado San Diego.

Pours a dark chocolate brown color that's almost black with a one finger off white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind.

Luscious dark malt aroma with strong barrel presence. Plenty of brandy, vanilla and oak but its well integrated without overpowering the malt notes.  Hints of toast, chocolate and coffee bean.

The flavor profile is similar to the aroma with a nice barrel presence that's well integrated into the flavor of the base.  There's a strong brandy flavor but very little heat.  Hints of toasted oak and vanilla along with roasted chocolate malt, caramel, coffee bean and toffee.  Complex, well balanced and very flavorful.
