I think I had this one at either Carlsbad or San Clemente. Had this on nitro.

Pours a cool yellow with ample creamy head, 1.33". The aroma wasn't quite there for a PP double ipa though. Below average for them.

The taste is a smooth experience, but that too obliterates the hops that PP is known for dripping their beers with. Any hop flavors like pine and citrus are minimized to the extreme for the sake of smoothness. Would just prefer the regular version.

A DIPA on nitro? I had to try it!

A very creamy yellow that seperates beautifully with a brilliant white head with great lacing and retention. Little aroma other that some citrus and sweetness. Taste is the same subtle and balanced for a DIPA but no real flavor to speak of. Feel is creamy and smooth.

A very intriguing beer with an incredible look and feel but the nitro masks or drowns out and real flavor (of which I suspect there is very little anyway). However it is a very smooth and easy drinking beer.

On Tap (Nitro)

Pizza Port
Carlsbad, CA

A cascading, hazy orange, and apricot colored pour with a thick, frothy, incredibly persistent bone-white head. This beer eventually leaves the glass messy with sheets of chunky lace.

An incredibly strong, pungent, hop punch in the face. There's tons of citrus (orange, mango, and pineapple) along with a bit of sticky, sappy pine aroma. Big, bold, and beautiful.

The flavor continues right where the aroma left off, with huge amounts of grapefruit and orange flavors along with a tiny bit of caramel sweetness and some pine presence. Moderate to strong bitterness combine but don't at all hurt the beer's drinkability. I have a feeling the nitro pour takes away from the flavor a bit, but it's still divine.

Creamy, smooth, rich mouthfeel. Extraordinary, and perhaps even expected with the nitro pour, but this beer took to the nitrogen particularly well.

Outstanding, though Poor Man's is still the better beer.

Poor Vato
10.3% DIPA on Nitro
-Described as a one-off messed up batch of Poorman’s that they threw on nitro with some pretty good results.

02/03/12

A: My pint arrives an amazing display of tiny cascading bubbles that lasts at least a good minute eventually forming a silky smooth two finger khaki-tan head. After some settling a real hazy pale orange-amber colored brew materializes. Leaves just a mess of lace upon the glass. Tiny tiny bubbles. Nitro in full effect.

S: Nose is just a full frontal grapefruit assault. Much like Poorman’s in the way of hoppage. No real malt or alcohol aromas exude.

T: Tastes like a damn Hop Creamsicle! Big fruity citrus notes with a touch of hemp and some sugary caramel vanilla goodness. You do lose some of that hop sticky-icky bitterness but man this is just so smooth and drinkable. Alcohol is barely even detectable but it’s there.

M: Mouthfeel is a frothy wonder. Silky smooth and oh so creamy. Lends a much lighter body. Go Nitro!

D: Very smooth and drinkable for a 10+% DIPA. Alcohol is not even there. Not quite as good as the original Poorman’s but the Nitro definitely offers up something a little different here. What you seem to lose in bitterness factor you gain in an incredible mouthfeel. This makes me want to try other DIPA’s on Nitro for sure.
