This beer is a tribute to anyone out there who has had to experience the graveyard shift, or for those who happen to like cheesy vampire flicks. Actually its really for all of you who can't go without your morning cup of coffee. Brewed with Bird Rock Coffee Roasters's hand roasted coffee beans from Caffe Calabria, you can smell this glorious Imperial Coffee Porter as soon as the bartender starts pouring it.

16oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a dark black body, one finger white head, good retention, splotchy lacing. Smell is rich black coffee, milk chocolate, toasted grains, cocoa, a bit of earth, touch of raisins. Flavour is black coffee, smooth lactose and milk chocolate, cocoa, toasted coffee beans, a nice admixture of velvety smooth cream and toasted bread. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, smooth and velvety, nice mildly bitter coffee and toast finish. Great coffee imperial porter/stout, really nice mouthfeel and body to go along with a good coffee presence.

Could've used a stronger coffee aroma, but otherwise nothing to complain about here. The roasty flavor is complex enough that you immediately hanker for another to sip to catch that hint of... something that kicked in at the end. The alcohol is well hidden, the mouthfeel is lush without dipping into syrupy. I can see why this won a medal at GABF.

Pours black with 1" brown head. Smells like roasted malt and coffee. I get the breakfast/dawn aspect of this beer, the best part of waking up kind of feel from it.

Taste is just rich on the malt, the coffee, hides the alcohol very well, carbonation is firm. Something makes it smooth moreso than bitter. Dark chocolate notes throughout. Mild sweetness moves it along. The amazing mouth feel here covers the alcohol so well that it should come with a warning label. I can't figure out why this beer doesn't have more fanfare, it is an elite level kick ass coffee stout.

If you are a coffee stout fan, there is no way you should skip this. This one seems like it was made for tailgating on a cold morning. Not that anyone in San Diego would ever know what that is like, but I'm sure they get by ok just drinking this beer in great weather nonetheless.
