Pretty nice red pour, good clarity, 1" in head, looks like a well made, professional beer. The lacing was far beyond average for a red ale, and the retention as well was impressive. I think the board said Amarillo hops, smells like Simcoe way more than Amarillo.

The taste profile is massively bitter. Wow, this is not a mild red ale at all, this is hopped to 10. Doesn't impart tons of flavor, just tons of bittering hops, like, for all the talk about amarillo hops, I get 90% Simcoe and C hops pungent bitterness. I guess if I had to pick a fruit, it would be grapefruit, nothing subtle enough to get through in terms of other flavors, be them hop or malt derivative. Thankfully, it doesn't have the heavy caramel red ale presence, but if it did, it might actually work with this big old hopped beer. I definitely liked it far more than your average red ale, but I think maybe less super alpha acid hops, and more Amarillo would round it out a little nicer.

Could have been a stronger red color for calling this an assassin. Aroma was grapefruit hops and well toasted malt.

Bitter, malty. Tight carbonation, almost dry mouthfeel for a red. Has potential, gotta figure out which side of the fence this one wants to sit on, or maybe it will always straddle it. Pale ale and red ale, together at last.

"Red Headed Assassin." Served on-draught into a taster at Lost Abbey; cost was $1.00. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a beige floater. No head. Body colour is a dark amber-copper. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Floral hops, amber malts, biscuit malts, and hints of cherry fruit. An average strength aroma.

T: Floral hops culminating in some poorly concealed bitterness. Weak amber malts form the underwhelming foundation. It's simple and pleasant albeit slightly imbalanced.

Mf: Coarse and wet. Decent thickness. Good carbonation. Doesn't complement the flavour profile all that well.

Dr: Drinkable but far from impressive considering the brewry. Hides its ABV well. Well priced but pedestrian. I wouldn't get it again. Quite average.

On tap at Lost Abbey. Single hop Red Ale made with left over wet Amarillo hops.

A: Burnished reddish orange with a finger of off-white froth. Scattered lacing with solid retention.

S: Bright hop nose. Juicy fruit profile composed of orange flesh, grapefruit, tangerine. Some biscuit and cracker. Pine resin blends with floral aromatics. Excellent.

T: Fresh and flavorful orange, grapefruit, and tangerine. Bright and expressive hop presence with crackery and lightly bready malt notes and just a little sweetness that augments drinkability. Firm but smooth bitterness. Nice flavor.

M: Upper light to lower medium body with upper medium carbonation. Dry and sticky mouthfeel.

Overall: I tried this on two separate days. A really nice hoppy red ale.

A: poured a reddish brown in color with yellow highlights and a nice head that left plenty of bubbly lacing sticking to the glass.

S: definitely had a great hoppy citrusy aroma upfront on the nose with hints of pineapple and grapefruit but had a good malty sweetness.

T: very nice hop profile that was piney, citrusy, and slightly fruity alongside bready malty sweetness, bitter grapefruit undertones, a touch of pineapple and resinous accents.

M: the brew was medium in body with a good amount of carbonation which had a hoppy, citrusy, mildly fruity, semi sweet, and slight bitter finish.

O: really solid red ale that reminded me of a west coast IPA cause it had such good hoppy characteristics.
